Lunt Solar Systems Filters Ca-K module with 6mm blocking filter in star diagonal for 2" focuser (15925)

Calcium K (Ca-K) telescopes and filters are specialized instruments designed for observing the Sun at the 393.4 nm wavelength. This emission line, produced by calcium, lies just at the edge of the visible spectrum in a region that is slightly lower and cooler than the one observed in Hydrogen-alpha. The Ca-K line is especially useful for studying super granulation cells, which appear brightest in areas with strong magnetic fields, such as sunspots and active regions.

Description

Calcium K (Ca-K) telescopes and filters are specialized instruments designed for observing the Sun at the 393.4 nm wavelength. This emission line, produced by calcium, lies just at the edge of the visible spectrum in a region that is slightly lower and cooler than the one observed in Hydrogen-alpha. The Ca-K line is especially useful for studying super granulation cells, which appear brightest in areas with strong magnetic fields, such as sunspots and active regions. Observing both the Ca-K and Hydrogen-alpha lines provides valuable information about the structure, strength, and depth of solar activity. Because the Ca-K wavelength is near the ultraviolet range, many people cannot visually resolve the contrast, so these systems are primarily used for imaging. However, individuals who have had cataract surgery may notice more detail. Cameras are generally preferred for capturing the fine details available at this wavelength.

Internal narrowband filters provide a bandpass of less than 2.4 Angstroms, making this system ideal for imaging applications.

Delivered with order:

  • Star diagonal with T2 connection, suitable for 2" focusers

  • B600 blocking filter with IR and UV protection

Specifications

Capacity

  • Designed for use with solar imaging systems.

Connection (to the telescope)

  • 2" barrel, compatible with telescopes that have a 2" focuser.

Half-value width

  • 2.4 Angstroms, providing a narrow bandpass for detailed solar imaging.

General

  • Type: Solar Filter

  • Type of build: Line filter (Calcium K narrowband)

This system is primarily intended for imaging the Sun in the Ca-K line, revealing solar features that are otherwise difficult or impossible to see visually. Always use the included blocking filter for safety and optimal performance.
