SMZ-171 Series Overview
The SMZ-171 Stereo Zoom microscope is an advanced addition to Motic’s established SMZ Stereo series. It features improved optics, ESD-compatible materials, and optimized LED illumination, making it ideal for both routine laboratory work and advanced research in biological, medical, and industrial settings. The Greenough optical system delivers clear, distortion-free images with a wide 6.7:1 zoom range. The microscope supports a variety of accessories and can be easily upgraded for digital documentation with Moticam cameras.

Zoom Range
The 6.7:1 zoom ratio allows for smooth transition from macro to micro observation, covering a magnification range of 7.5x to 50x. The parfocal optical system maintains focus throughout the zoom range. Auxiliary objectives and eyepieces can extend the total magnification from 2.25X up to 200X.
Auxiliary Objectives
A standard working distance of 110 mm allows for easy sample manipulation at any magnification. The maximum field diameter with 10X eyepieces at the lowest zoom is 30.7 mm.
Eyepieces
Widefield 10x/23 mm eyepieces are comfortable for all users, including those who wear glasses, and feature individual diopter adjustments (+/- 5 dpt). Additional magnifications and reticules are available.
3-D Imaging
The Greenough optical system provides fully separated optical paths, resulting in high-quality, distortion-free 3D images. The system achieves a maximum resolving power of 460 lp/mm with a 2x auxiliary objective.
Working Distance
The standard working distance is 110 mm and can be extended to 301 mm with auxiliary objectives. Higher total magnification can be achieved by combining objectives less than 1X with high-magnification eyepieces (up to 20x).
Optical Heads
Available in binocular or trinocular versions with a 45° viewing angle, 10X eyepieces, and a built-in 1X objective. Interpupillary distance is adjustable from 48 mm to 75 mm. A 60° binocular head is available for specialized needs. All optics are anti-fungus treated for use in humid environments.
Modular Configuration
The SMZ-171 is compatible with a variety of stands, including classic pole stands (32 mm diameter), arm stands, and industrial boom stands for larger samples. ESD versions are available for electrostatic-sensitive environments.
Illumination
A wide range of illumination options is available, including ring lights for shadow-free imaging and cold light sources with light guides for detailed surface visualization.
Digital Documentation
The SMZ-171 can be paired with Moticam digital cameras and software to create a complete documentation and analysis workstation. The trinocular version supports different camera adapters for various chip sizes.
