Nikon Camera Z6a II Full Range (75018)

The small "a" in the camera model stands for astromodified. Standard cameras are typically equipped with a filter that reduces the red spectral range, so the sensor’s color response closely matches human vision in daylight. However, this filter also blocks the important H-alpha wavelength, which is essential for capturing the glowing gas nebulae seen in astronomy. For astromodification, this filter is removed, allowing the camera to become much more sensitive to red light, especially in the H-alpha and SII ranges.

Description

The small "a" in the camera model stands for astromodified. Standard cameras are typically equipped with a filter that reduces the red spectral range, so the sensor’s color response closely matches human vision in daylight. However, this filter also blocks the important H-alpha wavelength, which is essential for capturing the glowing gas nebulae seen in astronomy. For astromodification, this filter is removed, allowing the camera to become much more sensitive to red light, especially in the H-alpha and SII ranges.

The astromodified version of a DSLR has significantly higher sensitivity in these red wavelengths compared to the original version. This makes it possible to photograph gas nebulae in the night sky, which are often very large and benefit from the camera’s large sensor.

Advantages of an Astromodified DSLR for Astrophotography

  • Ideal for capturing extended nebulae, thanks to the large sensor and high sensitivity in the H-alpha range.

  • Built-in computer functionality means you don’t need a laptop or external power supply, reducing cable clutter.

  • Wide range of compatible accessories and versatile applications.

  • Monitor with LiveView for easy focusing and image composition.

Astromodification is performed by AstroHobby in Italy, where the original Canon filter is replaced. There are several types of astromodification available:

Baader Astromodification: Uses the Baader Planetarium BCF filter, developed in Germany, which allows light from 420-680 nm to reach the sensor. This provides four times higher sensitivity to H-alpha compared to an unmodified camera.

Super UV/IR-Cut Astromodification: Similar to the Baader filter but with an even wider transmission range (400-700 nm), allowing the camera to capture all visible light.

Full Range Astromodification: The camera becomes sensitive to ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light starting at 300 nm. This version is ideal for maximum flexibility. With additional filters, the camera can be used for standard daylight photography, pure infrared imaging, or advanced astrophotography.

The astromodified camera is delivered with the same accessories as the original manufacturer: camera body, battery, charger, USB cable, and manual.

Please note: For astromodification, the original packaging is opened and the camera is tested, so the shutter count will not be zero. However, the cameras are not used, and any used items are clearly marked as such in the shop.
