Description
If you’re searching for a high-quality telescope for astrophotography, the Omegon Ritchey-Chretien (RC) telescopes are designed to help you achieve professional results. These telescopes offer a wide, coma-free field of view, ensuring stars appear round and sharp all the way to the edge of your images. This is one of the reasons why professional astronomers prefer RC telescopes for their work.
Main Advantages
-
Hyperbolic mirrors provide extremely sharp images and a wide field of view, so there’s no need for a separate corrector.
-
Quartz mirrors ensure stable focus throughout your imaging session, reducing the need for refocusing.
-
High reflectivity coatings (92-94%) deliver bright, high-contrast views and photographs.
-
The open tube design allows for rapid cooling, with electric fans included on the 10" model for even faster temperature adjustment.
-
The steel optical tube assembly (OTA) reduces focus shift by 50% compared to aluminum tubes, and internal baffles increase image contrast.
Superior Imaging with Hyperbolic Mirrors
Unlike Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes that use spherical mirrors, RC telescopes use hyperbolic primary and secondary mirrors. This design leads to sharper images and a larger usable field of view. Even with APS-C sensors, you can achieve ultra-sharp images without a corrector. Previously, this technology was only available to professionals, but now it’s accessible for amateur astronomers.
No Corrector Required
You can use your DSLR or astronomy camera with the telescope and get coma-free, pin-sharp images across the entire field. The 8" and 10" models even support full-frame sensors (24x36mm) without vignetting or the need for a corrector. If you want to use medium format, solutions are available upon request.
Stable Focus with Quartz Mirrors
If you’ve experienced focus drift during long exposures, you’ll appreciate the Omegon RC’s quartz mirrors. These mirrors are highly resistant to thermal expansion, so your focus remains stable all night.
Steel OTA for Consistent Focus and High Contrast
A steel OTA is important for maintaining focus and image quality. The Omegon RC’s steel tube, along with precisely positioned internal baffles, ensures high contrast and reduces focus shift compared to aluminum tubes.
Large, Unobstructed Aperture with 3-Inch Focuser
The telescope features a 3” Linear Crayford Focuser, providing enough space to illuminate large-format sensors without vignetting. This focuser combines the smoothness of a Crayford with the stability of a rack-and-pinion design. Features include:
-
Full rotation for perfect object alignment
-
Reducers for 2” to 1.25” accessories with integrated compression rings
-
Fine focus adjustment with a 1:10 reduction
-
Focus scale for quick repeatability
-
High stability to keep your camera perfectly aligned
RC vs. Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes
RC telescopes are different from classic Schmidt-Cassegrain or Maksutov designs. They don’t have a front corrector plate, making them open systems that adapt quickly to temperature changes and provide brighter images with less risk of internal reflections. The RC design is the most highly corrected two-mirror system available, offering impressive edge-to-edge sharpness. This is why most large research telescopes use the RC design.
Affordable for Amateurs
Hyperbolic mirrors were once very expensive to produce, limiting RC telescopes to professional use. Advances in manufacturing now make this technology available to dedicated amateur astronomers.
