Optolong Filters Clip Filter for Canon EOS FF UHC (59448)

The Ultra High Contrast (UHC) broadband filter is designed to enhance the visibility of a wide range of deep sky objects by reducing the transmission of wavelengths associated with light pollution. It specifically targets and suppresses light from artificial sources such as mercury and sodium vapor lamps, as well as the general sky glow effect. At the same time, the filter remains highly transparent to the main emission lines of nebulae, including OIII (496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII (654nm and 658nm), H-alpha (656nm), and SII (672nm).

Description

The Ultra High Contrast (UHC) broadband filter is designed to enhance the visibility of a wide range of deep sky objects by reducing the transmission of wavelengths associated with light pollution. It specifically targets and suppresses light from artificial sources such as mercury and sodium vapor lamps, as well as the general sky glow effect. At the same time, the filter remains highly transparent to the main emission lines of nebulae, including OIII (496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII (654nm and 658nm), H-alpha (656nm), and SII (672nm). This makes it suitable for both visual and photographic astronomy, especially in urban or suburban areas with significant light pollution.

This filter is designed for insertion into Canon EOS cameras with full-frame sensors, specifically compatible with the EOS 6D, EOS 5D, EOS 5D II, and EOS 5D III. It is not compatible with newer models such as the EOS 6D II or EOS 5D IV, as it interferes with the flip mirror mechanism and may cause camera malfunction.

Main Uses and Performance

**- Suitable for color CCD cameras and unmodified DSLRs.

  • The UHC filter’s narrower bandwidth offers higher contrast than CLS filters, making it better suited for urban environments with heavy light pollution.

  • Allows a significant portion of the red spectrum to pass, enabling excellent photography of objects like the Orion Nebula (M42).

  • Light pollution filters do not increase the brightness of astronomical objects, but they do enhance the contrast between nebulae and the night sky by reducing unwanted background light.**

Quality Materials

**- Made from high-quality German brand-name glass, 1.0mm thick.

  • Features multilayer antireflective coatings applied using advanced electron beam and ion beam deposition techniques.**

Quality Finish

**- Both sides of the filter substrate are optically polished to 1/4 lambda accuracy and less than 30 arc seconds non-parallelism.

  • Polishing quality of 60/40, meeting MIL-O-13830 standards.

  • Coatings are applied uniformly and precisely, ensuring high transmission in the desired passbands and strong blocking in off-band ranges.**

Important Note:
This filter must never be used as the sole solar filter.
