ZWO AM3 Harmonic Equatorial Mount + Carbon Tripod (79745)

The ZWO AM3 is a highly portable harmonic equatorial mount designed for astrophotography. Weighing less than 4 kg, this mount can support telescopes up to 8 kg without the need for counterweights. With an additional counterweight and rod (not included), the capacity increases to 13 kg. Years of development and multiple patents have contributed to the advanced design of this mount.

Versatile operation and user-friendly design
The AM3 can function in either equatorial or azimuth mode. Equatorial mode is ideal for astrophotography and requires precise alignment with the celestial pole. For visual observation or lunar and planetary imaging, altazimuth mode is suitable and can be set up in just a few minutes. The mount’s status indicator clearly shows which mode is active: red for equatorial and green for altazimuth.

No need for counterweights for lighter setups
Traditional German equatorial mounts require counterweights to balance the telescope. The AM3’s harmonic drive, adapted from robotics technology, eliminates this requirement for setups up to 8 kg, making the mount lighter, more compact, and easier to use. For heavier telescopes, counterweights can be added to maintain stability.

Precise tracking and autoguiding compatibility
Each AM3 mount is individually tested to ensure a periodic error (PE) of less than +/-20 arc seconds. The slow periodic error allows enough time for autoguiders to correct tracking, and the mount includes an ST-4 autoguider interface. Periodic error can also be reduced electronically using ASIAir or other software.

Travel-friendly and ready for global use
The AM3 is designed as a true travel mount, usable anywhere in the world—from the equator to the poles. Its compact form fits easily in flight baggage.

Wireless control via WiFi
All mount functions can be controlled with a smartphone. The AM3 integrates seamlessly with ZWO’s ASIAir, allowing you to manage the camera, autoguiding, and mount through a single app. The mount can also be operated with the wireless handbox if you prefer not to use a smartphone or tablet.
