ZWO once again raises the bar in astrophotography with the release of the new version of its iconic ASI2600MC Pro camera. This updated model retains all the features that made its predecessor a bestseller — exceptional image quality, high sensitivity, and uncompromising reliability — while introducing several improvements that make it an even more powerful tool for demanding astrophotographers.

At the core of this camera lies a color CMOS sensor developed by Sony. The IMX571 sensor is distinguished by its exceptionally low noise level of just 0.0024 e⁻/s/px at 0°C. This means that during a 300-second exposure, the total noise is less than 1e⁻, making it virtually negligible.

The photosensitive element, designed by Sony’s engineers, uses back-illuminated technology, making it significantly more sensitive than conventional sensors that place metal electrodes and transistors between the light source and the photodiode surface. In the IMX571, these components are located behind the active area, allowing maximum light capture.

Another major advantage of the back-illuminated design is the complete elimination of the amp glow effect, a common issue in long-exposure astrophotography that causes unwanted brightening at the image edges. The ASI2600MC Pro, like other high-end ZWO models, is entirely free from this problem.

A 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) handles signal processing, ensuring a wide tonal range and excellent dynamic depth in the captured images.

The camera also features an advanced temperature control system. A two-stage Peltier cooling module keeps the CMOS sensor at a low temperature, minimizing thermal noise, while a built-in heater around the sensor’s protective glass prevents condensation in varying environmental conditions.
