The Nikon ZR 6K Cinema Camera combines RED color science with Nikon engineering in a single compact body designed for serious filmmakers. This small Z-mount cinema camera supports a wide range of lenses and features built-in sensor stabilization, delivering smooth, steady images with more than 15 stops of dynamic range. It records up to 6K60 in REDCODE, N-RAW, or ProRes RAW and includes professional tools such as 32-bit float audio, advanced autofocus, and dual-base ISO.

Nikon and RED Color Science
This collaboration offers broad compatibility with professional production workflows. The camera supports REDCODE RAW R3D NE, Nikon N-RAW, Apple ProRes RAW HQ, ProRes 422 HQ, and high-quality compressed H.264 and H.265 codecs. REDCODE RAW (R3D NE) provides access to the same color space (REDWideGamutRGB) and Log curve (Log3G10) used in RED cameras, ensuring a cinematic, flexible image for grading.

The ZR can capture:

Audio Capture
The camera is built for professional audio as well as video. It supports 32-bit float and 24-bit recording with 48 kHz linear PCM for full compatibility with video workflows.

It includes built-in configurable microphones with five selectable pickup patterns: front/narrow, front, rear, omnidirectional, and binaural. A line-level input allows the use of external microphones, and the digital accessory shoe supports compatible mics such as the ME-D10 shotgun microphone. A headphone jack provides real-time audio monitoring.

Recording and Output
The ZR records internally to a CFexpress Type B card via a slot accessed through the battery door to maintain its compact form factor. A separate microSD card slot is available for proxy recording. For external monitoring or recording, a micro-HDMI output delivers a video signal to compatible displays and recorders.

Advanced Autofocus
Nikon’s deep-learning–powered autofocus system provides up to nine types of subject detection, with automatic tracking for people, animals, and vehicles. This makes it easier to maintain sharp focus during dynamic or unpredictable scenes.

Nikon Z Mount and Accessories
The Nikon Z mount is a wide, shallow full-frame mirrorless mount, making it highly adaptable and compatible with numerous NIKKOR Z lenses as well as many third-party lenses via adapters.

The ZR also benefits from an extensive ecosystem of accessories, including cages, microphones, handles, rigs, and grip solutions from Nikon and third-party manufacturers such as SmallRig.

Large, Bright Display
A built-in 4" variable-angle touchscreen LCD offers a DCI-P3 color gamut, 1000 cd/m² brightness, and a 3.07-million-dot resolution. This makes it easy to judge exposure, color, and focus, as well as operate camera controls.

The display automatically rotates when switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations.

Custom LUT Support
You can load up to 10 custom LUTs directly into the camera for real-time preview on the built-in screen, giving you a closer approximation of your final graded look while shooting.

Lenses and Image Stabilization
With the standard Nikon Z mount, the ZR can use the full NIKKOR Z lens lineup and a wide variety of adapted lenses. Its integrated 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization offers up to 7.5 stops of compensation, helping to maintain stable footage even when shooting handheld or with compact rigs.

Dual-Base ISO and Shutter Angle
The camera’s dual-base ISO provides base levels at 800 and 6400 in both Log3G10 and N-Log profiles, allowing cleaner images in both bright and low-light conditions.

You can set the shutter angle in 15 steps from 5.6° to 360°, providing precise control over motion blur and exposure to match professional cinema standards.

Frame.io Integration
Using the companion mobile app, you can connect the camera to your smartphone and integrate with the optional Frame.io cloud service. This streamlines asset management, remote collaboration, post-production workflows, and live streaming logistics.

Filmmaker-Oriented User Interface
The ZR’s user interface is designed for fast, intuitive operation. A simple stills/video switch and multiple customizable function buttons help you set up quickly.

A dedicated shortcut menu provides rapid access to key filmmaking tools such as grids, zebras, waveform, touch autofocus, focus peaking, and other image-control functions.

Power Options
Power can be supplied using one EN-EL15c battery in the battery compartment or via USB-C from an external power source such as an AC adapter or power bank. This flexibility is ideal for both on-set and mobile shooting.
