The Canon EOS C50 Cinema Camera is a compact, full-frame hybrid designed for both serious video production and high-resolution stills. With a newly developed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor, it can record 3:2 Open Gate video up to 4K120 and capture raw video up to 7K60, while also shooting 32 MP still photos. A simple photo/video mode switch makes it easy to move between dedicated stills and cinema-style recording. Key features include Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II, simultaneous 2K crop recording for social formats, built-in Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud integration, and XC protocol support for remote control. The detachable top handle adds two 3-pin XLR audio inputs and extra physical controls for fast adjustments on set.

7K Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
The C50’s 7K back-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor delivers clean, low-noise images in a wide variety of lighting conditions and maximizes the camera’s 15+ stop dynamic range in full-frame mode. Oversampling from 7K enables exceptionally detailed 4K60 footage and provides extra flexibility for reframing and cropping in post-production.

3:2 Open Gate Sensor Mode
For the first time in Cinema EOS, the C50 offers Open Gate recording that uses the full 3:2 area of the sensor. Selecting the Full Frame 3:2 mode lets you capture the entire sensor image, which can then be cropped and reframed in post into multiple aspect ratios. This is especially valuable when using anamorphic lenses or when delivering in different formats from a single master.

Internal Raw and High Frame Rate Recording
The C50 records 7K60 Cinema RAW Light internally with three 12-bit modes (HQ, ST, LT) to balance quality and data rate. For standard workflows, it offers XF-AVC in 10-bit 4:2:2 for detailed, gradable images at frame rates up to 120 fps without sensor cropping. You can record fast or slow motion up to 4K120 and 2K180. Additional codecs such as XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S provide file and folder structures that are easier to manage while preserving full metadata.

Anamorphic De-Squeeze
Built-in anamorphic de-squeeze options allow you to preview anamorphic footage correctly in-camera. You can choose among 2.0x, 1.8x, 1.5x, and 1.3x de-squeeze factors in the menu to match your lens, making framing and composition more accurate on set.

Dual-Base ISO
Base ISOs of 800 and 6400 in Canon Log 2 help you take full advantage of the sensor’s dynamic range in different lighting conditions. An Auto Selection function can intelligently switch between the two base ISOs and other ISO levels while maintaining dynamic range, allowing you to adapt quickly without sacrificing image quality.

Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II
The updated Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II system keeps subjects in focus even at high frame rates, supporting speeds up to 4K120 and 2K150. Improved light-capturing efficiency expands the usable autofocus area across the sensor. A deep-learning–based subject detection algorithm offers face and eye detection with left/right eye priority for both humans and animals, now including birds. This ensures reliable tracking in demanding scenarios such as documentary, wildlife, and event work.

Simultaneous Crop Recording for Social Media
The C50 can simultaneously generate a cropped 2K recording while you shoot in DCI or UHD 4K. Choose from 9:17, 9:16, or 1:1 aspect ratios, and the camera automatically saves a 2K crop in the selected format. This reduces turnaround time for vertical and square social media content, since delivery-ready files are created on the spot.
