Canon continues its tradition of producing reliable, high-performance cameras with the release of the Canon 5D Mark IV paired with the 24-105mm f/4L II lens. This model is designed for photographers who need exceptional still-image quality and a capable 4K video system. It features a newly developed 30.4MP full-frame CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6+ processor, offering a balance of fine detail, strong resolution, and reliable low-light sensitivity. The native ISO range spans 100–32000 and can be expanded from 50 up to 102400, providing clean, low-noise images in challenging lighting. The camera also delivers faster performance across focusing, connectivity, and overall responsiveness, thanks to an updated AF system, built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS.

To support fast and accurate image capture, the 5D Mark IV uses the DIGIC 6+ processor to achieve continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second. A 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor evaluates scenes for accurate exposure under varied conditions. The improved 61-point High Density Reticular autofocus system enhances tracking performance and precision, offering quick, stable subject acquisition. A dedicated AF area selection button allows immediate adjustment of AF settings.

Video performance benefits significantly from Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Movie Servo AF, enabling smooth and reliable focus transitions. The 3.2-inch 1.62-million-dot touchscreen allows users to tap to set focus points. With the addition of DCI 4K (4096 × 2160) recording at up to 30 fps, users can also extract 8.8MP still frames directly from video footage. Canon introduces Dual Pixel RAW technology in this model, allowing photographers to adjust elements such as focus micro-adjustment, ghosting reduction, and bokeh shift after capturing the image, using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software.

The body design has been updated for comfort, durability, and improved handling. The Canon N3 remote port has been moved to the front for easier access, and built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS make the camera more connected and versatile. The 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor supports consistent exposure, face detection, and flicker detection. High Density Reticular AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF
The AF system includes 61 phase-detection points, with 41 cross-type points and full f/8 sensitivity. The center AF point works down to –3 EV for very low-light shooting. The expanded vertical coverage improves subject tracking across the frame. Dual Pixel CMOS AF operates in Live View and video, providing smooth, accurate focus with approximately 80% frame coverage. Touch-to-focus functionality enhances usability.

DCI 4K Video Recording
The 5D Mark IV captures DCI 4K video at up to 30 fps (500 Mbps) and Full HD 1080p at up to 60 fps. Internal 4K recordings use 4:2:2 sampling at 8-bit depth, and Full HD uses 4:2:0 sampling. Full HD can also be output via HDMI to an external recorder at 4:2:2. The 4K mode uses a 1.74× sensor crop for 1:1 pixel sampling, while Full HD uses the entire full-frame sensor. Audio can be recorded with the built-in microphone or an external mic. A headphone jack supports real-time monitoring. Users can extract 8.8MP stills from recorded 4K footage.

Dual Pixel RAW
This feature records detailed pixel-level data that allows subtle adjustments after image capture. Photographers can fine-tune focus, adjust bokeh rendering, and reduce ghosting artifacts. This workflow requires Canon Digital Photo Professional software.
