32.5MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC X processing

• The 32.5MP full-frame CMOS sensor offers around 34% more resolution than previous R6 models, giving you extra detail, more flexibility for cropping and higher-quality prints.

• Paired with the DIGIC X processor, it delivers excellent image quality with low noise and a wide usable ISO range, while also driving Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, continuous shooting, video recording and in-body stabilisation.

The DIGIC X processor, taken from Canon’s higher-end bodies, is tuned for fast hybrid use:

• Supports up to 40 fps continuous shooting with the silent electronic shutter, or 12 fps with the mechanical shutter, with AF and AE calculated before every frame.

• A Pre-Continuous Shooting mode can capture up to 20 extra frames just before the shutter is fully pressed, helping you catch split-second action.

SCN shooting modes

For newcomers or anyone who prefers in-camera looks instead of heavy editing, the R6 Mark III includes a wide range of Scene (SCN) modes that automatically adjust settings based on the subject:

• Stills SCN modes: Portrait, Smooth Skin Portrait, Group Photo, Landscape, Panoramic Shot, Sports, Kids, Panning, Close-Up, Food, Night Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, HDR Backlight Control and Silent Shutter.

7K video recording and cinema-style options

Beyond stills, the R6 Mark III is built as a serious video tool:

• Internally records 7K video up to 60p in 12-bit Canon RAW Light.

• With an external recorder, it can output up to 7K 30p in ProRes RAW.

• Supports 7K 3:2 Open Gate recording at 30p in 10-bit MP4 or 12-bit RAW. Open Gate is ideal for social media because you can crop vertical 9:16, square 1:1 or other aspect ratios from one master frame.

• DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording is available at up to 119.8p for smooth 5× slow motion in a 23.98p timeline.

• At DCI 2K and Full HD, recording is possible up to 179.8p. Audio is recorded at all frame rates and resolutions except in dedicated Slow & Fast (S&F) mode.

• A dedicated S&F mode on the mode dial gives direct control over resolution, frame rate, playback speed and compression for slow- and fast-motion clips.

• 4K FINE mode uses oversampling for particularly sharp and clean DCI 4K and UHD 4K footage in XF AVC S format.

LUTs, colour control and custom picture profiles

To give you more control over the look of your footage directly in-camera:

• Canon Log 2 can be used when you want maximum dynamic range, providing 15+ stops of exposure latitude for advanced colour grading.

• You can load and apply LUTs in-camera via the Apply Look function. The camera supports 17-grid and 33-grid .cube LUTs, which can be saved as Custom Picture profiles and applied while recording. LUTs may also be transferred from a smartphone using Canon Camera Connect.

• 14 colour filters are available to apply creative colour and tone changes directly to JPEG stills or MP4 clips in-camera.

• A Custom Picture menu gives direct access to Canon Log 2, Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ, Canon 709, BT.709, Colour Filters and many other adjustable parameters for detailed look control.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Register People Priority

The R6 Mark III features an updated version of Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, incorporating technology from the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II:

• The phase-detection AF system uses intelligent subject detection to recognise people, animals and vehicles, then lock on and track them as they move.

• Register People Priority appears for the first time in an EOS 6-series camera. You can photograph a person and register them in-camera so they are prioritised over other faces in the frame, which is especially useful in crowded scenes. Up to 10 individuals can be stored.

• Four new AF area modes have been added, and you can now switch off tracking or subject detection when desired. The camera can also store and recall AF settings for quick switching between different focusing behaviours.

• Custom buttons can be assigned to recall preset focus positions, similar to the focus recall functions on Canon super-telephoto lenses.

• The Movie Servo AF algorithm comes from Canon’s C400 and C80 cinema cameras, helping autofocus transitions look smooth and natural, like carefully pulled manual focus.

8.5-stop in-body image stabilisation

• The enhanced 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer offers up to 8.5 stops of correction at the centre of the frame and around 7.5 stops at the edges (depending on the lens and settings).
