For the first time in the X-S series, the 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor is paired with the X-Processor 5 imaging engine. This combination brings high-speed image and video processing, faster and more accurate autofocus, FUJIFILM’s renowned color science, and five-axis in-body image stabilization offering up to seven stops of compensation.

The X-S20 is especially strong for video work. A dedicated Vlog mode allows easy control of key settings via the touchscreen while recording. Product Priority mode shifts focus smoothly between your face and the object in front of you, perfect for product demos and unboxings. Background Defocus mode lets you blur the background for a cinematic look with a simple touch.

To support professional-level audio, the camera includes two separate 3.5mm ports: one for an external microphone and one for headphones. Streaming in 6K, 4K, and Full HD is supported for high-quality live broadcasting, and the micro-HDMI output allows 12-bit raw video to be recorded to compatible external devices.

Design and Handling

The X-S20 has an intuitive, refined design aimed at comfortable, efficient shooting. It features larger dials and more pronounced buttons for confident operation. A bright 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder offers clear eye-level viewing, while the 3.0" 1.84m-dot rear touchscreen LCD uses a vari-angle design, making it ideal for high-, low-, and front-facing (selfie or vlog) shooting positions. The screen can also be flipped inward against the body for distraction-free shooting.

A USB-C port provides tethering and data connection options, and the camera supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The FUJIFILM XApp can be used to view and transfer images, see Live View from the camera, and operate the camera remotely. Power is supplied by the NP-W235 rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which benefits from the efficient X-Processor 5 to provide extended shooting times.

26.1MP APS-C X-Trans BSI CMOS 4 Sensor with X-Processor 5

The X-S20 uses a 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor combined with the X-Processor 5 to deliver smooth tonal rendering, rich color, and fast performance over extended shooting sessions. Low-light capability is strong, with a native ISO range of 160–12,800, further enhanced by the in-body image stabilization system.

As an X-Trans sensor, it uses a randomized pixel array instead of a conventional Bayer pattern. This design eliminates the need for an optical low-pass filter, helping to preserve fine detail and sharpness while also reducing moiré and aliasing. The X-Trans pattern is also intended to more closely resemble the organic character of film, with subtle color and tonal transitions.

Continuous shooting performance reaches up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter and a 1.25x crop, or up to 8 fps at full resolution using the mechanical shutter.

6K, 4K, and Full HD Video

The X-S20 offers a wide range of video options for creators. It can record internally in 6K at up to 30 fps, and Full HD at up to 240 fps for ultra slow-motion playback.

Thanks to the speed of the X-Processor 5, the camera delivers fast sensor readout, which helps to minimize rolling shutter distortion when filming fast-moving subjects. A micro-HDMI port allows 12-bit 4:2:2 raw output to compatible external recorders. For audio, the camera provides a 3.5mm microphone input for high-quality external mics and a separate 3.5mm headphone output for monitoring.

User-Friendly Video Modes

The X-S20 includes several modes tailored for different types of video content:

• Vlog Mode: Accessible directly from the mode dial, this mode lets you adjust key camera settings via the touchscreen while recording.

• Product Priority Mode: Ideal for product videos and unboxings, this mode prioritizes quick and smooth focus transitions from your face to items held up to the camera.

• Background Defocus Mode: With a single touch, the camera optimizes settings to blur the background and create a shallow depth-of-field, cinematic look.

Improved Autofocus

Powered by the X-Processor 5 and Deep-Learning AI technology, the X-S20 features subject-detection autofocus that can recognize and track human faces and eyes, as well as animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, and even drones.

An enhanced autofocus prediction algorithm provides stable focus tracking, particularly with continuously moving subjects. This improvement is especially noticeable in Zone AF and low-contrast conditions. In AUTO mode, subject detection is combined with autofocus to help ensure sharp results, allowing photographers and videographers to concentrate on composition and creativity.

Body Design Features

Drawing on FUJIFILM’s long tradition in film photography, the X-S20 includes multiple Film Simulation modes that recreate the look of classic film stocks:

• Provia: Standard contrast and moderate color saturation for general use.

• Velvia: High contrast and vivid saturation for striking color images.

• Astia: Softer contrast and lower saturation, well suited to portraits.

• Classic Chrome: Muted tones with deep color, reminiscent of older slide film.

In addition to these modes, a Grain Effect setting can be applied to mimic the texture of analog film, especially noticeable in prints. Color Chrome and Color Chrome Blue effects can also be enabled to deepen color density and enhance tonal gradation, particularly in areas of intense color.
