Description

The FUJIFILM X-T5 is a compact yet highly capable multimedia mirrorless camera built around a newly developed 40MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR back-illuminated sensor. Similar in size to the original X-T1 and lighter than the X-T4, it combines a classic, dial-based control layout with advanced modern technology. Key features include in-body image stabilization with up to seven stops of compensation, a Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode that produces 160MP files, and an ultra-fast electronic shutter offering speeds up to 1/180,000 second. Alongside its strong stills performance, the X-T5 is also a powerful video tool, capable of recording up to 6.2K in 4:2:2 10-bit internally or 12-bit ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW via HDMI.

40MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR BSI sensor

The X-T5 uses a 40MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor in a small, lightweight body designed to maximize both portability and performance. Despite its compact size, image quality is not compromised. An improved image-processing algorithm delivers sharp, highly detailed results throughout the native ISO range, making the camera suitable for demanding work in a variety of conditions.

Advanced video performance

For filmmakers and hybrid shooters, the X-T5 offers robust video capabilities. It can record internally at up to 6.2K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit color. A dedicated 4K HQ mode oversamples 6.2K footage to produce exceptionally detailed 4K output. The higher base resolution also enables a 2x digital zoom in-camera with minimal noticeable loss in quality, adding flexibility when framing shots.

External RAW output

The camera supports both F-Log and F-Log2, with F-Log2 offering an extended dynamic range of over 13 stops for enhanced flexibility in color grading. When connected via HDMI to compatible recorders, the X-T5 can output 12-bit ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW, integrating smoothly into professional video workflows.

425-point intelligent hybrid autofocus

The X-T5 features a fast and precise autofocus system with 425 phase-detection points. AF sensitivity extends down to -7 EV, allowing reliable focusing even in very low light. A deep-learning AI-based algorithm improves subject recognition and tracking, helping the camera identify and follow animals, birds, athletes, cars, motorcycles, and other moving subjects with increased accuracy.

In-body image stabilization

A 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system is built into the X-T5, reducing the impact of camera shake by up to seven stops. This works with most X-series lenses, including those that do not have optical stabilization, and is especially helpful when using slower shutter speeds or shooting in low-light environments. For video, additional digital image stabilization can be activated to further smooth handheld footage.

Pixel Shift Multi-Shot

Using the IBIS mechanism to shift the sensor in precise increments, Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode captures 20 separate frames with a single shutter press. These images are then combined using FUJIFILM’s Pixel Shift Combiner software to create a highly detailed 160MP file. This mode is particularly suitable for commercial studio work, product photography, artwork reproduction, or any static scene where maximum detail is essential.

Speed and responsiveness

The X-T5 is built to keep up with fast-moving subjects. The electronic shutter can reach speeds up to 1/180,000 second, while the mechanical shutter tops out at 1/8000 second. Shutter lag is approximately 35 ms, giving a quick, responsive feel when you press the release. Continuous shooting is possible at up to 15 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 20 fps with the electronic shutter, ensuring you can capture decisive moments.

Film Simulation modes

The camera includes FUJIFILM’s Film Simulation modes, allowing you to recreate the look and character of various classic film stocks directly in camera. Available modes include:

  • Provia

  • Velvia

  • Astia

  • Classic Chrome

  • PRO Neg.Std

  • Black & White (plus B&W + Ye, B&W + R, B&W + G variants)

  • Sepia

Refined body design

  • A large built-in OLED electronic viewfinder with 3.69m-dot resolution offers a bright, detailed eye-level view. The 0.8x magnification makes it comfortable to use, and refinements in optical design reduce parallax and distortion compared to earlier models. The 100 fps refresh rate supports nearly blackout-free viewing.

  • A 3.0" tilting touchscreen LCD with 1.62m-dot resolution supports intuitive touch controls and is helpful for composing shots from high, low, or unconventional angles.

  • Using the NP-W235 battery, the camera can capture up to approximately 680 frames on a single charge, and the mechanical shutter is rated for around 500,000 actuations, providing confidence in long-term durability.

Connectivity and ports

  • Micro-HDMI port for connecting to external monitors or recorders.

  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port for tethering, data transfer, and in-camera charging.

  • 3.5mm microphone input for improved audio recording with external mics.

  • PC sync terminal for studio flash synchronization.

  • 2.5mm remote input for wired remote controls.

  • Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wireless image transfer and remote camera control via compatible mobile devices.

FUJIFILM XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR Lens

The FUJIFILM XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR is a versatile zoom lens designed for a wide range of shooting situations. On an APS-C X-mount camera, it provides a 24–120mm full-frame equivalent focal length, covering wide-angle to medium-telephoto. A constant f/4 maximum aperture across the zoom range offers consistent exposure and depth-of-field control.

An advanced optical design includes three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion (ED) aspherical element to minimize distortion, chromatic aberration, and other common optical flaws. This results in sharp, high-contrast images with good color accuracy. A Super EBC coating across all elements helps reduce flare and ghosting, especially in backlit or high-contrast scenes.

Autofocus is quick and quiet, making the lens suitable for both still photos and video. An optical image stabilization system provides up to approximately six stops of shake reduction, which is particularly useful at slower shutter speeds or longer focal lengths. The lens is weather-resistant, protecting against dust, moisture, and low temperatures down to about 14°F, allowing confident use in challenging conditions. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth, attractive bokeh when using selective focus or shallow depth of field.

Key design points:

  • Standard zoom for APS-C FUJIFILM X-mount bodies with 24–120mm equivalent focal range.

  • One ED aspherical element to reduce color fringing and improve clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.

  • Three aspherical elements to control spherical aberrations and distortion, improving sharpness and overall rendering.

  • Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating) applied to all elements to suppress flare and ghosting and maintain contrast.

  • Fast, quiet autofocus suitable for both stills and video.

  • Optical image stabilization rated at up to six stops of shake reduction.

  • Weather-sealed construction for dust and moisture resistance and operation in cold temperatures.

  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm for pleasing out-of-focus rendering.
