Combining vintage styling with modern technology, the Nikon Z fc is designed to meet the needs of today’s content creators. This DX-format mirrorless camera is built around a 20.9MP CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 6 image processor. Together, they deliver fast continuous shooting up to 11 fps, UHD 4K video recording at 30p, and a native sensitivity range up to ISO 51200. Even though its design is classic, the camera is thoroughly modern: it includes a fully articulating touchscreen LCD, supports live streaming, works with external microphones, and uses an advanced 209-point autofocus system with full-time subject tracking and eye-detection AF.

Design and Handling

The Z fc’s styling is a clear nod to Nikon’s heritage SLR film cameras. The body features familiar physical controls, including dedicated dials for ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. A 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides a bright, clear view, and the camera supports SnapBridge wireless connectivity so it can pair with a smartphone or tablet for remote control and image transfer.

For added convenience during travel or long shooting sessions, the Z fc supports in-camera battery charging and power delivery via its USB-C port.

Sensor, Processor, and Autofocus

The DX-format 20.9MP CMOS sensor works with the EXPEED 6 image processor to deliver a strong balance of detail, low noise, and speed. The standard ISO range of 100–51200 allows shooting in a wide variety of lighting conditions and can be extended up to ISO 204800 for very low-light scenes. The combination of resolution and sensor size produces clean images with smooth color transitions and controlled noise throughout the ISO range.

The EXPEED 6 processor also enables a full-resolution continuous shooting speed of up to 11 fps, making it easier to capture fast-moving subjects. The sensor integrates a 209-point hybrid autofocus system that uses both phase-detection and contrast-detection methods for quick, accurate focusing in both stills and video. Eye Detection AF uses facial recognition to keep focus locked on your subject’s eyes.

Video Capabilities

The Z fc is not just for stills; it is also well suited to video creation. It records UHD 4K video at up to 30 fps and Full HD at up to 120 fps, allowing smooth slow-motion playback. Video files can be saved directly to the memory card. Time-lapse movies can be created in-camera as well, making it easy to produce cinematic sequences without additional software.

Heritage Controls with Modern Functions

The camera features precisely machined aluminum dials with engraved markings and mechanical controls for shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation. Intuitive operation is further supported by easy access to auto mode, quick setting adjustments, and menu help guidance.

NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR Lens

Also included in this kit is the NIKKOR Z DX 50–250mm f/4.5–6.3 VR telephoto zoom lens. It provides a 50–250mm focal range, equivalent to 75–375mm, covering medium telephoto to super-telephoto perspectives. This makes it suitable for sports, wildlife, distant subjects, and compressed-perspective portraits.

The lens features Vibration Reduction stabilization to minimize camera shake, as well as an autofocus system designed for smooth and quiet operation. Its optical construction is optimized for sharpness and contrast across the zoom range.
