Description

The Panasonic Lumix G9 II Mirrorless Camera is designed for creators who want excellent still-image performance and advanced video features. With a powerful new sensor and updated processing engine, it delivers high image quality with smooth tonal gradations and accurate color. This model introduces several new tools to help you realize your creative ideas.

It is the first G-series Lumix camera to feature a Phase Hybrid AF system, providing fast and precise autofocus. Using AI-powered subject recognition, it can identify and track cars, motorcycles, and animal eyes, improving focus accuracy in challenging scenes. The camera also supports burst shooting at up to 75 fps and offers a pre-burst function that records up to 1.5 seconds before you fully press the shutter, helping you capture the perfect moment.

25.2MP Digital Live MOS Sensor and Updated Processor

The G9 II is built for high-speed, high-resolution imaging. It uses a 25.2MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor along with an updated processor to produce sharp, detailed still images and cinematic DCI 4K and UHD 4K video. This combination maximizes resolution while keeping noise under control, resulting in natural color and lifelike depth. A handheld high-resolution mode merges multiple exposures into a single 100MP RAW or JPEG file, all without needing a tripod.

4K Video Recording and Shooting Assist Tools

  • The G9 II is a strong video camera as well as a stills body. It supports DCI 4K and UHD 4K 60p recording with 4:2:2 10-bit color and no fixed recording time limit. For high-resolution slow motion, it also supports C4K/4K 120p with 4:2:0 10-bit color.

  • A Frame Indicator can place a red border around the image while recording to help you avoid mistakes such as forgetting to hit the record button.

  • The Frame Marker function helps when creating vertical content from anamorphic footage, letting you visualize the final crop for social media while you shoot.

  • AWB Lock mode holds the current auto white balance, which is useful in locations with mixed or changing light where manual color temperature settings would normally be needed.

  • Vertical Position Information can detect when video is recorded vertically and lets you choose whether to embed this orientation information in the file.

  • An advanced Focus Transition feature can automatically shift focus between two or more points at a fixed speed, enabling smooth rack-focus effects for video.

Pro-Level Video Flexibility

  • V-Log comes pre-installed to record a flat, neutral gamma curve with the equivalent of more than 13 stops of dynamic range. This provides precise control over color in post-production and allows you to match footage easily with VariCam cameras.

  • Support for Apple ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ delivers high image quality at relatively low compression, reducing strain on your computer during editing and allowing non-linear editing without the need for transcoding.

  • Real Time LUT video recording lets you apply LUTs directly in-camera, speeding up both your workflow and color grading process.

  • V-Log View Assist supports LUT formats such as .CUBE, .VLT, and .TXT, so you can preview an approximation of your final image while recording.

Phase Hybrid AF System

The G9 II is the first Lumix G-series model to adopt a Phase Hybrid AF system. It uses 779 phase-detection points to provide fast, accurate autofocus and reliable subject tracking. The system is designed to handle six types of situations that are difficult for conventional AF systems, including scenes with multiple people, strong backlighting, or low light. Whether you are shooting still images or video, the camera can consistently maintain focus on your intended subject in demanding environments.

5-Axis Sensor-Shift Stabilization and Dual I.S. 2

  • Dual I.S. 2 combines 5-axis in-body stabilization (rated for up to 8 stops of compensation) with 2-axis optical stabilization in compatible Lumix lenses featuring O.I.S. Together, they correct a wide range of camera movements to produce sharper, clearer images when shooting handheld. When using adapted lenses, you can choose between in-body stabilization and optical stabilization in the lens.

  • For video use, Boost I.S. helps create a stable composition when you are recording from a fixed position, acting like a digital tripod.

  • A new Active I.S. mode corrects camera shake while you are moving, and an improved electronic image stabilization system can handle even stronger movements, such as when running.

Advanced Photographic Features

  • The Leica Monochrome photo style produces refined black-and-white images with a classic, expressive look.

  • Dynamic Range Boost creates a real-time HDR-style image from a single exposure, offering image quality comparable to some full-frame systems.

  • Live View Composite mode is ideal for night photography, such as star trails and fireworks, allowing bright areas to build over time without overexposing the scene.

  • Enhanced pre-burst shooting allows you to choose 0.5, 1, or 1.5-second buffers, so you can capture frames from just before you press the shutter button.

  • Continuous shooting speeds go up to 75 fps with the electronic shutter and up to 14 fps with the mechanical shutter.

Body Design and Handling

  • A high-resolution 3.68-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder offers 0.8x magnification and can operate at 60 fps or 120 fps refresh rates for smooth, responsive viewing.

  • The large 3.0" 1.84-million-dot rear LCD monitor is bright and clear for live view, playback, and menu operation. Its fully articulating "free-angle" design supports high, low, and front-facing positions, and the touchscreen interface provides intuitive control over focus and camera settings.

  • An 8-direction joystick and a refined menu system allow for quick, efficient operation and easy navigation.

  • Dual UHS-II-compatible SD card slots provide flexible storage options: you can record RAW and JPEG files to separate cards, duplicate files for backup, or use overflow recording to extend capacity.

  • An optional XLR microphone adapter adds professional XLR audio inputs and physical audio controls via the hot shoe.

  • The magnesium alloy body is solid and durable, and its dust- and splash-resistant design makes it suitable for harsh conditions and challenging shooting environments.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity

Bluetooth Low Energy (5.0) provides a continuous, low-power link between the camera and a smartphone or tablet. For more demanding wireless tasks, the camera supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz, IEEE 802.11ac) for faster transfers and smoother remote control and monitoring. The Lumix Sync app for iOS and Android lets you control the camera remotely, transfer images wirelessly, and update firmware using your mobile device.

Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens

The included Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. lens covers a 24–120mm equivalent focal length range on Micro Four Thirds cameras, from wide-angle to short telephoto. Developed in collaboration with Leica, it uses four aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations and minimize distortion. The result is high clarity, sharpness, and accurate color throughout the zoom range.

A linear autofocus motor provides fast, smooth, and near-silent focusing, making the lens suitable for both stills and video. The POWER Optical Image Stabilizer reduces camera shake for sharper handheld shots and supports Dual I.S. when used with compatible Lumix bodies for even better stabilization. The solid metal construction is splashproof, dustproof, and freeze-resistant, so it can be used confidently in challenging environments. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps create smooth, attractive bokeh.
