The Panasonic Lumix S5 II is designed for creators who demand strong performance in both stills and video. Built around a new 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and updated L2 processing engine, it is the first Lumix camera to feature Phase Hybrid AF, delivering fast, accurate autofocus. It records 6K video for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited 4K recording, while the new Active I.S. image stabilization system enhances handheld video, especially during walking shots.

New Sensor and L2 Processing Engine

The upgraded 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, paired with the L2 image engine, introduces a newly developed Phase Hybrid AF system with 779 phase-detection points for significantly improved subject tracking. The camera balances sensitivity and dynamic range with a native ISO range of 100–51,200, expandable to 50–204,800 for low-light shooting. For fast action, it supports full-resolution continuous shooting at up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter.

The S5 II also uses sensor-shift stabilization and offers a High Resolution mode. In this mode, eight separate exposures are combined into a single 96MP RAW or JPEG file with a resolution of 12000 × 8000 pixels. This is ideal for static scenes and tripod work, delivering increased detail and color accuracy compared to a single exposure.

6K and 4K Video Recording

Beyond stills, the S5 II is highly capable for video work. It records full-frame 6K 30p footage in 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes, and supports unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit. For slow motion, it can capture video at up to 120p, enabling smooth, high-resolution slow-motion sequences. RAW output via HDMI is available with an optional license.

V-Log is pre-installed and provides a flat, neutral gamma profile with approximately 14+ stops of dynamic range. This gives precise control over color in post-production and allows seamless intercutting with footage from Panasonic VariCam systems.

The Dual Native ISO system further optimizes performance in different lighting conditions by using two separate base ISO circuits per pixel:

Phase Hybrid AF System

The S5 II is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to employ Phase Hybrid AF, combining phase detection with contrast detection for highly reliable focusing. Its 779 phase-detection points provide fast, precise autofocus for both stills and video. This system is designed to track subjects dependably in challenging situations, including:

Dual I.S. 2 with Active I.S.
