Description
The Panasonic Lumix S5 II mirrorless camera is designed for creators who need powerful, dependable performance in both stills and video. It features a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and an updated L2 image processing engine, making it the first Lumix camera to use Phase Hybrid AF for fast, precise autofocus. Using the full potential of this sensor and processor, the S5 II can record 6K video for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited 4K recording. It is also optimized for handheld video with a new Active I.S. system that stabilizes walking shots and other camera movement.
New sensor and processing engine
The upgraded 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, paired with the L2 processor, introduces a Phase Hybrid AF system with 779 phase-detection points, greatly improving subject tracking and focus reliability. The sensor offers a wide dynamic range and a standard ISO range of 100–51,200, expandable to 50–204,800 for work in varying lighting conditions.
For fast action and moving subjects, the S5 II supports continuous shooting up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter at full resolution. In-body 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization helps keep stills sharp and also enables a High Resolution mode. In this mode, eight separate exposures are combined into a single 96MP RAW or JPEG image with 12000 × 8000 pixels. This is ideal for static subjects when using a tripod and provides higher detail and better color accuracy than a single exposure.
6K and 4K video performance
Beyond stills, the S5 II is a strong tool for video. It records full-frame 6K 30p video in 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes and allows unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit modes. For slow-motion work, it supports recording at up to 120p, enabling smooth, high-resolution slow-motion footage. RAW output over HDMI is available via an optional license.
V-Log is pre-installed and provides a flat, neutral gamma profile with approximately 14+ stops of dynamic range, giving excellent flexibility for color grading and allowing seamless matching with Panasonic VariCam footage.
To balance low noise and high sensitivity, the S5 II uses Dual Native ISO technology with two separate base circuits per pixel:
-
Low ISO circuit base values: ISO 100 (standard), ISO 640 (V-Log), ISO 400 (HLG), ISO 200 (Cinelike D2/V2)
-
Low Noise circuit base values: ISO 640 (standard), ISO 4000 (V-Log), ISO 2500 (HLG), ISO 1250 (Cinelike D2/V2)
Phase Hybrid AF system
The S5 II is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to adopt a Phase Hybrid AF system. This combines phase-detection and contrast-detection autofocus and uses 779 phase-detection points for fast, precise focusing in both stills and video.
The AF system is designed for reliability in six challenging situations, including low light, backlighting, and scenes with multiple moving subjects. Whether recording video or shooting stills, the camera persistently tracks your chosen subject, even when other objects move through the frame or lighting conditions are difficult.
Dual I.S. 2 and Active I.S. stabilization
For handheld stills, Dual I.S. 2 combines 5-axis in-body stabilization with compatible lens-based stabilization to deliver up to approximately 6.5 stops of shake compensation, helping keep images sharp at slower shutter speeds. For video, the newly developed Active I.S. system further enhances stabilization while the camera is moving, making walking and run-and-gun shots look smoother and more controlled.

Panasonic Lumix S 24–105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. lens
The Lumix S 24–105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. is a versatile zoom lens that covers wide-angle to short telephoto focal lengths, making it well suited for landscapes, portraits, product photography, and general use. It is designed for full-frame L-Mount cameras and maintains a constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range. On APS-C models, it delivers a 36–157.5 mm equivalent focal length.
The optical design includes:
-
Four aspherical elements, including two extra-low dispersion aspherical elements, to reduce distortions and spherical aberrations, maintaining edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.
-
One ultra extra-low dispersion (UED) element and two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing, improving clarity and color accuracy.
The lens also has a macro capability with a 1:2 maximum magnification ratio and a minimum focusing distance of 11.8" (30 cm), making it well suited for close-up and detail work.
An Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) reduces the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld images and works with the camera’s Dual I.S. 2 system to provide even greater stabilization performance. The lens includes an AF/MF switch for quick focus mode changes, and a zoom lock switch to prevent lens creep when not in use.
Its weather-sealed design protects against dust, moisture, and freezing temperatures down to –14°F, making it suitable for use in demanding outdoor conditions. A rounded 9-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth, pleasing bokeh in out-of-focus areas.
