Description
The Panasonic Lumix S5 II mirrorless camera is built for creators who demand strong performance in both photography and video. It features a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and an updated L2 image processing engine, making it the first Lumix camera to use Phase Hybrid AF for fast, precise autofocus. Using the full power of this sensor and processor, the S5 II records 6K video for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited 4K recording. It is also tuned for handheld video with a new Active I.S. system that stabilizes walking and moving shots for smoother footage.
New sensor and processing engine
The full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor works together with the L2 processor and a new Phase Hybrid AF system featuring 779 phase-detection points. This combination significantly improves subject tracking and focusing accuracy. The sensor delivers a wide dynamic range and supports an ISO range of 100–51,200, expandable to 50–204,800, so it can handle a variety of lighting conditions.
The S5 II is well suited to action and fast-moving subjects, with continuous shooting at up to 9 fps using the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter at full resolution. The in-body 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization also enables a High Resolution mode that captures eight separate exposures and merges them into a single 96MP RAW or JPEG image (12000 × 8000 pixels). This mode is ideal for static subjects on a tripod and gives higher detail and more accurate color than a single frame.
6K and 4K video recording
In addition to stills, the S5 II offers powerful video capabilities. It records full-frame 6K 30p footage in 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes. Unlimited recording is available when shooting in DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit modes. For slow-motion work, it supports recording at 120p, allowing detailed, smooth slow-motion video. RAW output over HDMI is available with an optional license.
V-Log is pre-installed and provides a flat, neutral gamma profile with approximately 14+ stops of dynamic range. This gives extensive flexibility for color grading and allows footage to be matched easily with Panasonic VariCam cameras.
To balance low noise and high sensitivity, the S5 II uses Dual Native ISO technology. Each pixel has two separate base circuits:
-
Low ISO circuit base values: ISO 100 (standard), ISO 640 (V-Log), ISO 400 (HLG), ISO 200 (Cinelike D2/V2)
-
Low Noise circuit base values: ISO 640 (standard), ISO 4000 (V-Log), ISO 2500 (HLG), ISO 1250 (Cinelike D2/V2)
Phase Hybrid AF system
The S5 II is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to adopt a Phase Hybrid AF system, combining phase-detection and contrast-detection autofocus. With 779 phase-detection points, it provides fast, accurate focusing for both stills and video.
This AF system is designed for reliability in six challenging scenarios, including low light, backlighting, and scenes with multiple moving subjects. It continuously tracks the chosen subject even when other objects enter the frame or lighting conditions change, helping ensure consistent focus in difficult environments.
Dual I.S. 2 with Active I.S.
For handheld still photography, the Dual I.S. 2 system combines 5-axis in-body stabilization with compatible optical stabilization in lenses to offer up to approximately 6.5 stops of shake compensation. For video, the newly developed Active I.S. mode further improves stability while the camera is moving, particularly during walking shots, producing smoother handheld footage.

Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 lens
The Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 is a compact standard prime lens designed for full-frame L-Mount mirrorless cameras. Its 50 mm focal length is ideal for portraits, landscapes, and everyday shooting, providing a natural perspective. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture allows strong depth-of-field control and solid low-light performance while keeping the lens lightweight and portable.
The lens optical design includes 9 elements in 8 groups, featuring three aspherical elements, one extra-low dispersion element, and one ultra high refractive index element. This configuration helps reduce chromatic aberration and color fringing and maintains high sharpness and clarity across the frame.
A linear autofocus motor suppresses focus breathing and delivers smooth, precise, and nearly silent focusing, making it well suited for both still photography and video. For video professionals, linear focus ring control supports follow focus use, moving focus at a constant speed according to the rotation angle of the focus ring. The lens also supports smooth exposure changes via micro-step aperture control, which is useful when filming.
A rounded 9-blade diaphragm contributes to soft, pleasing bokeh. The lens is built for tough environments with a dust-, moisture-, and freeze-resistant design for shooting in more extreme conditions.
When used on APS-C models, the lens provides a 75 mm equivalent focal length, making it particularly useful for portrait work on both full-frame and crop-sensor bodies.
