Description

The Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX is a second-generation full-frame mirrorless camera created for professional content creators who need powerful still-image performance, advanced video capabilities, and dependable livestreaming tools. It features a newly designed sensor paired with an updated L2 image processing engine and is the first Lumix camera to include Phase Hybrid AF, providing very fast and precise autofocus. With its 24.2MP sensor and enhanced processor, the S5 IIX can record 6K video for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited 4K video recording. Designed with video in mind, it also incorporates a new Active I.S. system that stabilizes walking and handheld shots to deliver smoother footage.

This advanced model comes pre-loaded with high-end video tools tailored to professional users, including HDMI RAW video data output, USB-SSD recording, ALL-Intra recording, and ProRes recording. Livestreaming features are standard, with options for Wireless IP streaming, USB tethering to smartphones, and wired IP streaming. It is also the first Lumix camera to feature a refined, stealthy all-black design.

New Sensor and Processing Engine
The S5 IIX uses an upgraded full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor and an L2-powered image processing engine. The sensor incorporates a newly developed Phase Hybrid AF system—used for the first time in a Lumix-series camera—providing 779 phase-detection points for significantly improved subject tracking. It offers a wide dynamic range and high sensitivity, with a standard ISO range of 100–51,200, expandable to 50–204,800, making it suitable for many different lighting conditions.

For action and fast-moving subjects, the camera supports full-resolution continuous shooting at up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter. Sensor-shift image stabilization is built in, and a High Resolution mode captures and combines eight separate exposures into a single 96MP raw or JPEG file. This mode is intended for tripod use and static subjects and produces highly detailed, color-accurate images at 12,000 x 8,000 pixels.

6K and 4K Video Recording
The S5 IIX delivers strong video performance in addition to stills. It records full-frame 6K 30p video with 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes and supports unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit modes. For smooth high-resolution slow motion, it also supports 120p video capture. RAW HDMI output is available with an optional license upgrade.

V-Log is pre-installed to capture a flat, neutral gamma curve with more than 14 stops of dynamic range. This offers precise control over color and exposure in post-production and allows effortless matching with Panasonic VariCam footage. Dual Native ISO technology, derived from Panasonic’s broadcast cameras, balances low noise and high sensitivity. Each pixel has two separate circuits:

  • Low ISO circuit: ISO 100 for regular use, ISO 640 with V-Log, ISO 400 with HLG, ISO 200 with Cinelike D2/V2.

  • Low Noise circuit: ISO 640 for regular use, ISO 4000 with V-Log, ISO 2500 with HLG, ISO 1250 with Cinelike D2/V2.

Professional Video Features

  • HDMI RAW video data output for advanced external recording.

  • Recording and playback support using an external SSD via USB for quicker backup and post-processing.

  • ALL-Intra and ProRes recording for demanding professional workflows.

  • Wireless IP streaming, USB tethering to smartphones, and wired IP streaming for modern livestreaming setups.

Phase Hybrid Autofocus System
The S5 IIX is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to adopt a Phase Hybrid AF system with 779 phase-detection points. This system provides fast, precise focusing and excellent AF reliability. It is designed to accurately track subjects across six challenging types of scenes that have traditionally been difficult for conventional autofocus systems—such as low-light situations, backlit scenes, and frames with multiple people. Whether shooting stills or video, the camera works to keep the intended subject in sharp focus.

Dual I.S. 2 with Active I.S.
The Dual I.S. 2 stabilization system provides approximately 6.5 stops of shake compensation, supporting sharp handheld photography. For video work, the newly developed Active I.S. system enhances stabilization during walking or movement, improving the steadiness of handheld footage.

Body Design and Handling
The S5 IIX uses the L-Mount, shared with other members of the L-Mount Alliance. With a 51.6 mm mount diameter and 20 mm flange distance, it supports a wide range of lenses, including classic and modern anamorphic designs that have been in use for decades.
