When they are positioned perpendicular to each other, the image becomes completely dark due to extinction.
Polarized light microscopy is used to study anisotropic biological samples, including blood, urine, synovial fluid, muscle contractile structures, and collagen fibers, revealing details that are not visible under standard illumination.
