Magus SPD3 Polarizer/Analyzer Set (85047)

This polarizer and analyzer set is designed to enable polarized light microscopy. The set includes a polarizer and an analyzer that work together to create polarized illumination for advanced specimen observation.

The polarizer is mounted on the collector, while the analyzer is installed in the slot of the microscope stand above the revolving nosepiece. The polarizer is fully rotatable through 360 degrees, allowing precise control of the polarization angle. The intensity of transmitted light varies depending on the relative orientation of the polarizer and analyzer. When they are positioned perpendicular to each other, complete extinction occurs and the image becomes dark.

The forward-facing position of the polarizer corresponds to 0 degrees, representing the parallel orientation, while the side-facing position corresponds to 90 degrees, representing the perpendicular orientation. The polarizer can also be flipped downward, allowing it to be removed from the optical path without detaching it from the microscope.

Polarized light microscopy is used to study anisotropic biological samples, including blood, urine, synovial fluid, muscle contractile structures, and collagen fibers, revealing features that are not visible under standard illumination.
