ZWO Mount AM7 Harmonic Equatorial without tripod (88445)

The AM7 is ZWO’s most powerful mount, built around an industry-standard strain wave gear. This design makes the mount exceptionally compact while remaining extremely robust. It can carry up to 20 kilograms without counterweights, making it ideal for mobile astrophotography. For permanent or stationary setups, optional counterweights can be added, increasing the maximum load capacity to 30 kilograms. Both axes use stepper motors with toothed belts in the primary gear system.

Description

ZWO AM7 Mount – Overview

The AM7 is ZWO’s most powerful mount, built around an industry-standard strain wave gear. This design makes the mount exceptionally compact while remaining extremely robust. It can carry up to 20 kilograms without counterweights, making it ideal for mobile astrophotography. For permanent or stationary setups, optional counterweights can be added, increasing the maximum load capacity to 30 kilograms.

Precision and Performance

Both axes use stepper motors with toothed belts in the primary gear system. The periodic error is less than 10 arcseconds, and there is no backlash when changing the direction of movement. Overall operation is exceptionally smooth. Each AM7 mount is individually tested and delivered with its own periodic error (PE) test report.

Versatile Operation

The AM7 supports parallactic (equatorial) mode for astrophotography as well as azimuth mode for visual observation. Thanks to its 0° to 90° elevation adjustment, it can be used anywhere in the world.

The mounting saddle accepts both Vixen and Losmandy prism rails, allowing compatibility with nearly any telescope.

Power Requirements

Power supply: DC 12 volts, minimum 3 amps
Connector: 5.5 × 2.1 mm, center positive

Wireless Control and Connectivity

ZWO emphasizes smart, wireless astrophotography. The AM7 is equipped with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing wireless control via the Sky Atlas app on iOS or Android devices, or wireless connection to ZWO’s ASIAIR control computer.

If preferred, the mount can also be operated without a smartphone using the included hand controller.
