Description

Levenhuk New Skyline PRO 16" (400/1830) Retractable Dobsonian Telescope (86290)

The Levenhuk New Skyline PRO 16" (400/1830) is a retractable open-truss telescope mounted on a Dobsonian base. This advanced and practical design delivers outstanding performance for visual astronomy. With a 406 mm aperture and an 1830 mm focal length, it provides exceptional resolving power and light-gathering capability.

Planetary details appear with impressive clarity. Jupiter’s cloud bands and Great Red Spot are clearly defined, Saturn’s rings reveal complex structure, Mars shows polar ice caps, and the phases of Venus and Mercury are distinctly visible. For deep-sky observation, the telescope brings famous nebulae such as Orion, Ring, and Dumbbell into view, along with nearby galaxies including Andromeda and Whirlpool. Rich star clusters in Coma Berenices and numerous globular clusters become highly detailed. Lunar observers will appreciate the ability to resolve craters, mountain ranges, and rilles as small as 1.5–2 km.

High-Precision Optical System

The Newtonian optical design eliminates chromatic aberration, ensuring natural color reproduction without unwanted color fringes. The parabolic primary mirror focuses incoming light precisely, removing spherical aberration and maintaining sharpness across the entire field. Optical elements are made of BK-7 glass and coated with aluminum, achieving 92–95% reflectivity for bright, high-contrast images.

Focusing is handled by a dual-speed 2" rack-and-pinion focuser with a 1.25" adapter, allowing precise control and compatibility with various eyepieces. The included 10 mm and 25 mm Plössl eyepieces provide magnifications of 183× and 73×. With a maximum practical magnification of 800×, the telescope supports detailed high-power observation and accessory upgrades.

Retractable Open-Truss Construction

The optical tube features a fixed open-truss design for improved portability and easier storage compared to a solid tube. A protective fabric shroud shields the optics from dust and wind during operation. The optical tube assembly weighs 32.1 kg and is supported by a manually operated Dobsonian mount crafted from durable finished wood. The mount weighs 31 kg and provides a stable, long-lasting platform for intensive use.

To ensure optimal performance within the operating temperature range of −5°C to +35°C, allow 1.5–3 hours for the primary mirror to acclimate to outdoor conditions. The included cooling fan, powered by eight AA batteries (not included), significantly reduces thermal stabilization time and helps maintain image stability.
