The TeleVue 55 mm Plössl eyepiece offers excellent optical performance and is widely regarded as one of the finest eyepieces in its class. Designed as a versatile all-purpose eyepiece, it performs exceptionally well for observing planets, the Moon, and deep-sky objects. It consistently delivers very high contrast and impressive sharpness, setting a benchmark for quality within the Plössl category. This eyepiece features four fully coated lens elements arranged in two achromatic groups, providing high light transmission and minimal image loss. The lens edges are blackened to reduce internal reflections and improve contrast. Thanks to TeleVue’s optimized optical design, the 55 mm Plössl maintains very good edge sharpness, even when used with fast telescopes. From the 32 mm focal length downward, the Plössl series is parfocal, allowing convenient eyepiece changes with minimal refocusing. It is also suitable for eyepiece projection applications.

With a generous 38 mm eye relief, the 55 mm model offers an exceptionally comfortable viewing experience, making it especially suitable for observers who wear glasses. Although Plössl eyepieces are based on a classic four-element design, TeleVue’s implementation elevates the concept through precision engineering and premium materials.
