The TeleVue Starbeam is a premium red-dot projection finder designed for maximum comfort, flexibility, and precision. Its unique flip-mirror mechanism allows viewing from straight-through orientation up to 90°, ensuring comfortable use whether the telescope is aimed low or high in the sky. In straight-through mode, you see the natural sky with a bright 10 arc-minute red “star” (approximately one-third the diameter of the Moon) marking the telescope’s pointing position. When observing at higher elevations, simply flip the mirror into place for a more ergonomic viewing angle with an orientation that matches refractor or SCT images.

The size, color, and brightness of the projected red aiming point are adjustable, making it easy to see against twilight or dark skies. With a 39 mm aperture, the projected image remains clearly visible from various distances behind the unit. A precision glass lens functions as a beamsplitter, combining the real sky with the superimposed red pointing star. The first lens surface acts as a collimating mirror, keeping the red star stationary relative to the sky regardless of eye position. Its 6 arc-minute pointing accuracy allows precise targeting, even when using high magnifications in the main telescope. A compensating curve in the second lens surface ensures a natural sky view and is multi-coated to prevent ghosting or double images.

The Starbeam is fully machined from aluminum and finished in black anodizing, including the push-pull thumb screws. Alignment requires no tools. This version includes the TeleVue Quick Release Bracket and TeleVue Dovetail. The Quick Release Bracket mounts easily to TeleVue ring mounts and mount rings, while the Dovetail is attached to the base of the Starbeam.

The quick-release system allows the finder to be removed for storage or transferred between telescopes with ease. The Dovetail also enables compatibility with Orion and Sky-Watcher finder shoes, as well as certain Vixen models not manufactured in Japan. In some cases, the stop screw on the Dovetail may need to be removed to fit non-TeleVue finder brackets. The Quick Release Bracket can also accommodate Vixen, Orion, and Sky-Watcher stalk-type finders.
