ZWO Camera ASI 585 MM-Air Mono (88176)
ZWO’s Air technology integrates an imaging sensor, a guiding sensor, and an astro computer into one compact housing. This provides you with a cooled deep-sky camera, built-in autoguider, and smart control system in a single device. The guiding system uses an SC2210 CMOS sensor. Due to flange focal distance effects, guide stars at the edges of the image may appear slightly distorted. This is not caused by sensor tilt and does not affect normal guiding performance.

Description
ZWO Camera ASI 585 MM-Air Mono (88176)
ZWO’s Air technology integrates an imaging sensor, a guiding sensor, and an astro computer into one compact housing. This provides you with a cooled deep-sky camera, built-in autoguider, and smart control system in a single device.
The guiding system uses an SC2210 CMOS sensor. Due to flange focal distance effects, guide stars at the edges of the image may appear slightly distorted. This is not caused by sensor tilt and does not affect normal guiding performance.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi Connectivity
An external dual-band antenna supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, ensuring stable and smooth wireless operation within a range of up to 20 meters. Using the ASIAIR app, you can easily control the camera and monitor images directly from your smartphone.
Real-Time Stacking and Instant Sharing
During image capture, individual frames are automatically stacked in real time. This process significantly enhances the signal-to-noise ratio, allowing celestial objects to appear progressively clearer and more detailed on your screen. You can adjust brightness, contrast, and other image parameters instantly and share your results directly with friends or on social media.
High-Performance Sony IMX585 Sensor
The camera features a Sony IMX585 sensor with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels and 2.9 µm pixel size. It delivers high resolution, fast frame rates, and completely eliminates amplifier glow. This makes it suitable for:
-
High-detail moon and planetary imaging
-
Solar photography (with an appropriate filter)
-
Long-exposure imaging of nebulae and galaxies
-
Infrared photography to reduce atmospheric effects
-
Electronically Assisted Astronomy (EAA)
The sensor size allows many deep-sky objects to be captured without the need for a field corrector.
Even raw images are smooth and clean, thanks to the absence of amp glow. A powerful Peltier cooling system lowers the sensor temperature by up to 35°C below ambient temperature, ensuring low-noise imaging even in warm conditions.
Optimized for Planetary Imaging
With 2.9 µm pixels, very high resolution can be achieved even at f/10 focal ratios, often eliminating the need for Barlow lenses.
A clear protective glass window prevents dust from reaching the sensor while allowing UV and infrared light to pass through. By selecting suitable contrast filters, nebula filters, IR-pass filters, or UV/IR blocking filters, you can precisely control the wavelengths reaching the sensor.
Advanced Cooling Performance
The regulated Peltier cooling system maintains stable sensor temperatures even in high ambient conditions. At an outside temperature of 20°C, the sensor can be cooled down to approximately -15°C.
Exceptional Sensitivity with STARVIS 2 Technology
The back-illuminated CMOS structure reduces readout noise and enhances sensitivity. Sony’s STARVIS 2 technology ensures excellent low-light performance. The camera performs exceptionally well not only in visible light but also in the near-infrared range, helping reduce atmospheric seeing effects.
Low readout noise combined with high full-well capacity provides a wide dynamic range. With its generous field of view, the ASI 585 MM-Air is suitable for solar, lunar, planetary, and deep-sky imaging, as well as live streaming.
ZWO Air cameras are compatible with telescopes designed for APS-C or larger image formats. When used with APS-C image circles, slight distortion may appear in guide stars. For optimal guiding precision, a telescope with a full-frame or larger image circle is recommended.
All DC 12V/3A ports can function as either input or output, offering flexible power management.
Mono or Color?
Monochrome cameras offer higher sensitivity and support advanced imaging techniques such as LRGB and narrowband imaging, as well as scientific applications like spectrometry and photometry.
Color cameras provide a convenient all-in-one solution for RGB imaging and do not require additional filters or filter wheels.
Both options are capable of producing outstanding astrophotography results. The best choice depends on your specific needs and imaging goals.
