Latest Generation AM5N Harmonic Mount

The AM5N is the newest version of ZWO’s proven AM5 harmonic equatorial mount. It supports telescopes up to 15 kg without counterweights and up to 20 kg when optional counterweights and a counterweight bar are used. Despite its impressive load capacity, the mount weighs only 5.5 kg, making it highly portable.

The mount can operate in equatorial (parallactic) mode for astrophotography or in altazimuth mode for visual observation. Both a wireless hand controller and app-based control are included. Thanks to integrated WiFi, cable clutter is minimized.

The AM5N works especially well with ZWO’s ASIAIR system, allowing complete control of camera, autoguiding, and mount through a single app.

Harmonic Drive Technology

The AM5N uses strain wave (harmonic) gearing derived from robotics technology. Unlike traditional German equatorial mounts, it does not require counterweights for telescopes up to 15 kg. This makes the mount lighter, more compact, and easier to handle. Counterweights are recommended only for heavier setups to maintain optimal balance.

Flexible Operation

In equatorial mode, accurate polar alignment is required for astrophotography. For visual observation or lunar and planetary imaging, altazimuth mode allows quick setup within minutes. An LED status indicator shows the active mode: red for equatorial and green for altazimuth.

High Tracking Accuracy

Each AM5N mount is individually tested before delivery and guaranteed to achieve a periodic error (PE) of less than ±20 arcseconds. The slow periodic error allows autoguiding systems sufficient time for correction. An ST-4 autoguider interface is included, and additional electronic correction can be applied via compatible software.

Worldwide Usability

Designed as a true travel mount, the AM5N can be used anywhere on Earth, from equatorial regions to polar latitudes. Its compact design makes it suitable for air travel.

TC40 Carbon Tripod

The included TC40 tripod is made of carbon fiber, offering excellent stability with minimal weight. It supports loads up to 50 kg while weighing only 2.3 kg. The height is adjustable from 47 cm to 80 cm, and the transport length is just 50 cm. A tripod bag is not included.
