The Powermate incorporates a negative doublet paired with a positive "pupil-correcting" doublet. This 4-element configuration provides the magnifying function of a Barlow while overcoming its limitations by redirecting the field rays back to their original direction, effectively eliminating any obstruction. The outcome is a pure increase in magnification.
