This results in much sharper images of dark structures on Mars, Jupiter, the Moon, and even the Sun. These details can be incorporated as a fourth color channel in RGB imaging. The hot tip for the 2003 Mars opposition! These filters enable imaging of Mars with webcams from anywhere in the world.

The trick: Instead of capturing the 'LUMINANCE' channel in the standard spectral range of 400-700nm, this filter focuses deep into the red spectrum at 670nm. The transmission window begins at 670nm, just within the visible range, allowing for precise focusing.
