The optical system employed in this telescope is a modified Ritchey-Chretien design, renowned for its flat and coma-free field of view. Meade's design team, however, didn't settle for convention. They undertook extensive modifications to enhance this classic system, successfully eliminating diffraction lines, a common drawback of the RC system, and substantially reducing astigmatism.
The LX200-ACF UHTC 8" f/10 model boasts an enlarged main mirror crafted from borosilicate glass, characterized by reduced expansion. This innovation allows the telescope to fully harness its field of view while remaining less susceptible to thermal fluctuations.
Moreover, all optical elements feature an anti-reflective UHTC™ coating, which outperforms other multilayer coatings by transmitting over 20% more light. This technology ensures exceptionally bright and high-contrast images.
