SC telescopes traditionally feature a spherical primary mirror, which can be a limitation due to difficulties in focusing off-axis light rays. However, the innovative correction plate developed by optical designer Bernhard Schmidt resolves this issue. Paired with the Schmidt plate, SC telescopes produce sharp images devoid of spherical aberration. Moreover, this design seals the OTA at both ends, safeguarding the main mirror from contamination and air turbulence.

The secondary mirror, positioned beneath the correction plate, reflects light back to the main mirror, which exits through the OTA's back. This folded light path, named after Laurent Cassegrain, offers advantages such as reduced leverage stress from heavy accessories and consistent eyepiece height across different altitudes, making observation comfortable and safe for all.

Advanced Coma-free Optics (ACF) by Meade eliminate common mirror aberrations, ensuring point-shaped stars across the image field, especially beneficial for astrophotography. Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) on the front correction plate enhance light transmission, resulting in brighter celestial phenomena.
