Despite featuring a spherical primary mirror, which traditionally poses challenges in off-axis light focusing, SC telescopes overcome this limitation with a specially designed correction plate affixed to the OTA. This setup eliminates spherical aberration, ensuring sharp images. Additionally, the OTA's sealed design protects the primary mirror from contamination and minimizes air turbulence.

The secondary mirror is positioned beneath the correction plate, reflecting light back to the primary mirror. This folded light path, known as the Cassegrain design, offers advantages such as reduced leverage stress from heavy accessories and consistent eyepiece height, enhancing viewing comfort and safety, especially for observers on balconies.

Meade's Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) optics deliver pinpoint star images across the entire field of view, free from elongated distortions. Combined with Ultra-High Transmission Coatings (UHTC) on the correction plate, ACF optics ensure enhanced light transmission for brighter star clusters, finer nebulae details, and sharper planetary surface features.

All LX200 models feature a primary mirror locking mechanism to prevent mirror movement during long exposures. This ensures stability and eliminates image shift, enhancing the precision of visual and photographic applications.
