Orion Optics DK 300/2040 ODK12 OTA Dall-Kirkham telescope

The ODK-Series (Optimised Dall-Kirkhams) features a focal ratio of f/6.8, striking a balance between speed for excellent deep sky photo-visual use and sufficient focal length for detailed planetary work, whether visual or CCD applications.

Crafted from a Carbon Fibre sandwich design, the tube is exceptionally sturdy to prevent flexing and maintains zero expansion, ensuring the focal plane stability during long photographic exposures. Its open tube design and short length facilitate remarkably fast cool-down times.

Each model is equipped with three fans positioned behind the primary mirror to aid in cooling down the telescope efficiently.

Precise focusing across the ODK range is achieved with the ACU-3S 3”-Crayford Focuser, featuring a 10:1 reduction drive.

The primary mirror, made from Schott Borosilicate Low Expansion Suprax glass, is meticulously produced to an F/4 paraboloid configuration with a surface accuracy of 1/6 wave or better. Orion Optics UK employs the Zygo Laser Interferometer, one of the world's most precise measuring devices, ensuring top-notch optical quality.

The primary mirror is Hilux coated for optimal aluminium protection, providing the highest possible reflective surfaces.

Orion Optics UK manufactures aluminium tube rings on their own CNC milling machines, offering maximum security and precision. These rings are felt-lined to provide a secure grip to the polished tubes, with pressure adjustment facilitated by large knurled knobs.

The ODK series is supported by the precision ACU-3S 3” focuser, boasting a short draw tube length and internal threaded draw tube (76.2mm) for wide fields without vignetting. It features an ultra-accurate 10:1 slow-motion control and allows for 360-degree rotation for effortless setup with attached equipment.
