Description

In contrast to filters designed solely for visual observation, photographic CCD filters come equipped with built-in IR-blocking, effectively mitigating optical issues arising from infrared radiation.

MRF-coating: Thanks to the innovative MFRF coating technology, these filters can be utilized across all devices up to an aperture of f/4.

Alternatively: Line filters with a 12nm full width at half maximum are compelling options for users employing a DSLR or CCD camera with higher dark current. The 12nm filters are particularly advantageous for cameras equipped with a built-in guiding chip, as they typically yield twice as many stars in the resulting image.

Guidance for your selection:

For your primary filter, we recommend the Astronomik CLS filter. This filter effectively suppresses artificial light pollution and natural airglow, providing a dark-sky background and enabling longer exposure times for capturing faint objects. It is optimized to reproduce objects in their natural colors. Note: The basic CLS filter lacks built-in IR-blocking, so opt for the CLS-CCD filter for astro-modified cameras!

Ideal for heavily light-polluted areas, the Astronomik UHC filter is a strong contender. Its transmission curve selectively permits light from H-beta, OIII, H-alpha, and SII lines, offering superior background suppression compared to CLS. However, it primarily enhances the visibility of gas nebulae, filtering out star clusters and galaxies to a large extent.

For a comprehensive introduction to astrophotography, consider the OIII, H-alpha, and SII emission line filters, available with a full width at half maximum of 6nm or 12nm. These filters facilitate detailed imaging of faint objects even in locations with extreme light pollution or under a full Moon. Images captured using these narrow emission lines may not display natural colors.

Owners of astro-modified cameras may find the Astronomik OWB filter beneficial. OWB, or "Original White Balance," corrects the altered color reproduction of converted cameras, enabling their use for everyday photography without the need for extensive post-processing adjustments.
