Description

IDAS Type 4 BGR+L filter sets are meticulously engineered for tri-color (BGR) or quad-color (BGR+L) imaging, with meticulous attention to features ensuring accurate color reproduction as perceived by the human eye:

  • The bandpasses are thoughtfully designed with astronomical imaging in focus, featuring gentle passband rolloffs and overlapping to reproduce intermediate colors, particularly emphasizing prominent emission nebula lines, striving towards achieving "true color."
  • The red (R) filter incorporates some blue (B) band response to align with the human eye's response, enabling accurate reproduction of violet frequencies as violet (purple). This rectifies the representation of violet frequencies often misrepresented as pure blue by traditional filters lacking B response in the R filter.
  • The B/G filter crossover point is finely tuned slightly below 500nm to effectively balance the colors in the two OIII emission lines (500.7nm and 495.8nm).

All filters harness the exclusive IDAS Ion Gun Assisted Deposition (IGAD*) coating technology, ensuring exceptional coating durability (quartz hardness) and safe cleaning practices. IGAD coatings also enhance the temperature and humidity stability of filter performance, minimizing spectrum shifts to within +/-1nm compared to the typical +/-3 or 4nm shift of standard coatings.

The distinctive bandpass configurations of IDAS Type 4 filters facilitate various imaging techniques:

  • Conventional BGR+L imaging is achieved by employing the IR blocking L filter alongside each component color filter (BGR). The Clear filter serves as the L-component, ensuring consistent focus position across all components.
  • Full-band False Color imaging can be accomplished by utilizing the BGR and clear filters without additional filtration. This empowers IR-capable imaging chips to utilize their complete spectral capability. Note that imaging optics must effectively capture IR wavelengths.
