This filter is specifically designed for astrophotography using the calcium lines in the solar spectrum. It comes with AstroSolar photo film (ND=3.8) in a 200x290mm format for pre-filtering sunlight. The filter isolates the two calcium lines at 393nm and 396nm, producing a deep blue image. This enables observation of a region of the Sun located between the photosphere (visible in white light) and the chromosphere (visible in H-alpha light). It allows imaging of features such as flares scattered across the Sun, bright zones around sunspots and sunspot groups, and the dense network of super granulation. This filter is especially suitable for Newtonian telescopes.
