Zoom Range

The SMZ-171 allows easy transition from macro to micro views with a 6.7:1 zoom ratio, providing a standard magnification range of 7.5x-50x. Focus adjustment is not needed while zooming, as the system remains parfocal throughout. Auxiliary objectives and eyepieces can extend the total magnification range from 2.25X to 200X.

Auxiliary Objectives

With a standard working distance of 110mm, the SMZ-171 provides ample space for manipulating samples at various magnifications. The maximum field diameter at the lowest zoom setting with 10X eyepieces is 30.7mm.

Eyepieces

The standard widefield 10x/23mm eyepieces are designed for comfort, even for spectacle wearers, and include individual diopter adjustments (+/- 5dpt). Standard rubber eye guards help minimize stray light and improve viewing comfort. Alternative magnifications and reticules are available for measurement purposes.

Three-Dimensional Imaging

Utilizing the Greenough Optical System, the SMZ-171 delivers impressive, distortion-free 3D images with high resolving power (up to 460 lp/mm with a 2x auxiliary objective).

Working Distance

The standard working distance is 110mm and can be extended to 301mm with an additional auxiliary objective. Lower objective magnifications can be compensated with higher magnification eyepieces, up to 20x.

The optical heads are available in binocular or trinocular versions with a 45° viewing angle, 10X eyepieces, and a built-in 1X objective. Interpupillary distance can be adjusted between 48mm and 75mm. For special setups, a binocular head with a 60° viewing angle is also available. All optics are treated to resist fungus, making the SMZ-171 suitable for humid environments. Illumination

The SMZ-171 can be paired with Moticam digital cameras for live imaging and digital documentation. All Motic cameras include software for analysis and documentation. The trinocular version allows the use of different camera adapters depending on the camera’s chip size.
