Description

The LUMIX GH7 is designed to significantly improve both the speed and quality of video production. It features a 25.2MP BSI CMOS sensor and a more advanced autofocus system with Phase Detection AF and Real-time Recognition AF, capable of identifying humans, animals, cars, motorcycles, trains, and airplanes. The camera supports internal Apple ProRes RAW recording and 32-bit float audio recording, which removes the need to constantly adjust audio levels during shooting. It also supports Adobe cloud-based workflows, Real-time LUT application, and Open Gate recording for flexible framing.

Key advantages include:

  • 25.5MP sensor with more than 13 stops of dynamic range boost for vibrant, detailed photos and videos

  • Internal Apple ProRes RAW recording and the world’s first 32-bit float recording in an interchangeable lens camera

  • Compatibility with Adobe Frame.io Camera to Cloud for fast, cloud-based collaboration

  • Open Gate recording that provides flexible framing and full-sensor coverage for multiple formats

  • Real-time LUT support to load custom LUT files and apply new color styles directly to photos and videos

Professional Features for High-End Content

The GH7 introduces important upgrades to make your footage sharper, cleaner, and brighter. The Phase Hybrid AF system continuously tracks subjects, so the camera can lock onto and follow them quickly and accurately. The Dynamic Range Boost function ensures a wide dynamic range across all ISO sensitivities, helping preserve details in both highlights and shadows.

Efficient Workflow

The GH7 is built to streamline modern video workflows. Both ProRes RAW HQ recording and 32-bit float audio recording can be handled internally by the camera, allowing you to create high-quality, production-ready material with a minimal, compact setup.

World’s First 32-bit Float Recording

When used with the optional DMW-XLR2 XLR adapter (sold separately), the LUMIX GH7 can record audio in 32-bit float format. This provides a very wide dynamic range, capturing everything from very quiet to very loud sounds without clipping, and largely eliminating the need for constant level adjustments during recording. This improves audio quality and increases efficiency in post-production.

First in an interchangeable lens digital camera as of June 5, 2024, according to Panasonic research.

ProRes RAW HQ Internal Recording

The GH7 can record 5.7K 30p ProRes RAW HQ footage directly to compatible media inside the camera body. This allows you to capture high-quality RAW video at the press of a button, without needing external recorders. Improved compatibility with gimbal setups further expands your creative shooting possibilities.

ProRes RAW recording is not supported on SD cards.

ARRI LogC3 Recording

With the optional DMW-SFU3A software upgrade, users can enable ARRI LogC3 recording, allowing easier color matching with ARRI digital cinema cameras. ARRI has certified the processing of the LogC3 curve in the LUMIX GH7. This expands the camera’s Log options beyond the standard V-Log, offering richer color information and a wide dynamic range, and further improving workflow compatibility with professional cinema systems.

ARRI LogC3 is a Log gamma profile developed by ARRI and used in their digital cinema cameras. ALEXA 35 uses ARRI LogC4. On the LUMIX GH7, ARRI LogC3 is available for 10-bit recording in Creative Video mode. ARRI is a registered trademark of Arnold & Richter Cine Technik GmbH & Co. Betriebs KG.

Outstanding Reliability

The GH7 is engineered for long, uninterrupted shoots. Thanks to its compact body design and efficient heat dissipation structure, it can record for extended periods even in demanding modes such as 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p and ProRes RAW HQ, without needing to stop due to overheating.

Phase Hybrid AF

Reliable autofocus is crucial on professional shoots. In addition to contrast-based AF, the LUMIX GH7 uses a Phase Detection AF system, dramatically improving subject tracking and metering performance. It can maintain focus even in complex scenes with multiple moving subjects, and it remains accurate in backlit or low-light environments.

Real-time Recognition AF

The GH7’s advanced subject detection AF is particularly useful for sports, wildlife, and vehicle photography. It can now recognize a broader range of subjects and specific target areas, such as:

  • Human and animal eyes and faces

  • Human heads and bodies

  • The front of vehicles

  • Helmets of drivers and motorcyclists

  • The first car of a train

  • The nose of an airplane

This intelligent recognition helps the camera prioritize and maintain focus on the most important elements in the scene.

Richer Tonal Expression with Dynamic Range Boost

Dynamic Range Boost captures two different image signals within a single exposure and combines them in real time to produce images with richer tonal range, even in high-contrast situations. For still photos, this allows deeper and more detailed shadow rendering in RAW files. For video, it supports V-Log/V-Gamut recording with more than 13 stops of dynamic range.

Real-time LUT

The GH7 can apply LUTs directly in-camera to both photos and videos, allowing you to create finished-looking content straight out of the camera. It supports ".VLT" and ".CUBE" LUT formats. By using Real-time LUT, you can significantly reduce the complexity and time required for color grading in post-production. When paired with the LUMIX Lab app, you can create custom LUTs on your smartphone and easily load them into the camera.

LUMIX Lab App

The GH7’s high-speed Wi-Fi lets you pair the camera with a smartphone in just three steps. Once connected, you can transfer content quickly, crop images, adjust brightness, and apply LUTs, making it easy to prepare material for social media or client previews in a very short time.

Native Camera-to-Cloud Integration with Adobe Frame.io

With Frame.io Camera to Cloud integration, the GH7 can automatically upload photos and videos to the cloud. Files are backed up, shared, and made available for collaborative editing almost immediately, helping teams work more efficiently from capture through post-production.

Live Streaming

You can select the streaming approach that best suits your shooting environment:

  • For outdoor or on-the-go setups, wireless live streaming (RTMP/RTMPS) can be quickly configured using the LUMIX Sync app.

  • For indoor or studio work, wired live streaming (RTP/RTSP) offers a more stable and reliable connection.

Unlimited Video Recording Time

The LUMIX GH7 supports internal 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p recording with no fixed time limit, as long as it is used within the recommended operating temperature range of -10°F to 104°F (-10°C to 40°C). This makes it highly suitable for small production teams and demanding conditions where both mobility and high image quality are essential. The camera also supports simultaneous internal recording and external recording via HDMI output.

A CFexpress card or an SD memory card with Video Speed Class 90 (V90) is required for some recording modes.
