Description

The Panasonic Lumix G9 II Mirrorless Camera is built for content creators who need excellent still-image performance and advanced video capabilities. With a powerful new sensor and updated processing engine, it delivers high image quality with smooth tonal gradations and accurate color reproduction. New features such as AI-powered autofocus recognition and ultra-fast burst shooting help you capture decisive moments with confidence. As the first G-series Lumix camera to offer Phase Hybrid AF, it adds real-time recognition for cars, motorcycles, and animal eyes for more precise subject tracking. The camera also supports burst shooting at up to 75 fps and includes a pre-burst function that can record up to 1.5 seconds before you press the shutter, letting you “go back in time” to catch the perfect frame.

25.2MP Digital Live MOS Sensor and Updated Processor

The G9 II uses a 25.2MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor paired with an updated imaging processor to deliver sharp, detailed still photos and cinematic DCI 4K and UHD 4K video. This combination maximizes resolution while keeping noise low, producing realistic color and a convincing sense of depth. A handheld high-resolution mode combines multiple exposures into a single 100MP RAW or JPEG file, all captured without a tripod.

4K Video Recording and Shooting Assist Functions

  • The G9 II is a highly capable video camera that supports DCI 4K and UHD 4K 60p recording with 4:2:2 10-bit color and no fixed time limit. For slow-motion work, it also supports C4K/4K 120p recording with 4:2:0 10-bit color.

  • A Frame Indicator function outlines the frame with a red border while recording, helping you avoid mistakes such as thinking you’re recording when you are not.

  • The Frame Marker function makes it easier to convert anamorphic footage into vertical video for social media, letting you visualize the final crop during recording.

  • AWB Lock mode fixes auto white balance when lighting conditions are mixed or changing, such as indoors with a combination of natural and artificial light. This improves efficiency and avoids the need for manual color temperature adjustments.

  • Vertical Position Information can detect when your video is recorded vertically and lets you choose whether or not to embed that orientation information in the file.

  • An advanced Focus Transition function can automatically shift focus between points at a constant speed, making it easy to achieve smooth, cinematic rack-focus moves.

Pro-Level Video Versatility

  • V-Log is pre-installed and records a flat, neutral gamma curve with the equivalent of more than 13 stops of dynamic range. This gives you precise color control in post and allows seamless intercutting with footage from VariCam cameras.

  • The camera supports Apple ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ recording for high image quality with low compression. This reduces computer load during editing, enables smoother playback, and minimizes the need for transcoding, improving overall workflow efficiency.

  • Real Time LUT allows you to record video with LUTs applied in-camera, helping to streamline color grading.

  • V-Log View Assist supports .CUBE, .VLT, and .TXT LUT formats, letting you preview an approximate final look while recording.

Phase Hybrid AF System

The G9 II is the first Lumix G-series body to use a Phase Hybrid AF system. It offers 779 phase-detection points that deliver fast, precise autofocus and excellent subject tracking. Reliability is central to this AF system: it is designed to keep tracking the intended subject even in complex scenes with multiple people or in difficult lighting conditions such as backlight or low light. Whether shooting stills or video, the camera maintains focus on your subject in situations that are challenging for traditional AF systems.

5-Axis Sensor-Shift Stabilization and Dual I.S. 2

  • Dual I.S. 2 combines 5-axis in-body stabilization (rated up to 8 stops) with 2-axis optical stabilization in compatible Lumix O.I.S. lenses. Together, they compensate for a wide range of camera movements to produce clearer, sharper images when shooting handheld. With adapted lenses, you can choose whether to rely on in-body stabilization or the lens’s optical stabilizer.

  • For video, Boost I.S. helps maintain a stable frame when you are holding the camera in a fixed position, acting like a digital tripod.

  • A new Active I.S. mode corrects camera shake while you are moving, and an improved electronic image stabilization system helps stabilize more severe motion, such as when running.

Powerful Photographic Features

  • The Leica Monochrome photo style delivers elegant, film-like black-and-white images.

  • Dynamic Range Boost mode creates a real-time HDR composite from a single exposure, delivering image quality that can rival larger full-frame systems.

  • Live View Composite mode is ideal for night scenes, star trails, and fireworks, building up an image over time without overexposing bright areas.

  • Improved pre-burst shooting offers 0.5, 1, and 1.5-second options, so you can capture frames moments before you fully press the shutter.

  • Continuous shooting speeds reach up to 75 fps with the electronic shutter and up to 14 fps with the mechanical shutter.

Body Design and Handling

  • A 3.68 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides 0.8x magnification and offers 60 fps or 120 fps refresh rates for smooth viewing and tracking.

  • The large 3.0" 1.84 million-dot rear LCD is bright and clear for live view, playback, and menu navigation. Its fully articulating design supports high, low, and front-facing angles, and the touchscreen interface makes adjusting settings quick and intuitive.

  • An 8-direction joystick and refined menu layout support fast, efficient operation.

  • Dual UHS-II-compatible SD card slots provide flexible storage: you can separate RAW and JPEG files, mirror recordings for backup, or extend capacity with overflow recording.

  • The body supports accessories such as the DMW-RS2 remote shutter, and includes 3.5 mm microphone and headphone jacks for advanced audio work.

  • An optional XLR microphone adapter adds professional XLR inputs and physical controls via the hot shoe.

  • The camera’s magnesium alloy body is robust, dust-resistant, and splash-resistant, making it suitable for challenging weather and environments.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity

Bluetooth Low Energy (5.0) maintains a constant, low-power connection to a smartphone or tablet. For higher-bandwidth tasks such as remote monitoring and file transfer, dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, IEEE 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n/ac) is available. The Lumix Sync app for iOS and Android allows remote shooting, wireless image transfer, and convenient firmware updates using a connected mobile device.
