Description
The Panasonic Lumix G9 II Mirrorless Camera is built for creators who need excellent still-photo performance and advanced video tools. With a powerful new sensor and updated image processor, it delivers high-quality images with smooth tonal transitions and accurate color. This latest version adds a range of new features to help you bring your ideas to life.
It is the first G-series Lumix camera to use a Phase Hybrid AF system, providing fast, precise autofocus. New AI-based recognition can identify cars, motorcycles, and animal eyes in real time, improving subject detection and tracking accuracy. The camera also supports 75 fps burst shooting and includes a pre-burst function that records up to 1.5 seconds before you press the shutter, giving you a better chance of capturing the perfect moment.
25.2MP Digital Live MOS Sensor and Updated Processor
Designed for high-speed, high-resolution work, the G9 II is equipped with a 25.2MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor and an updated processing engine. Together they produce sharp, detailed still images and cinematic DCI 4K and UHD 4K video while keeping noise levels low. Colors appear natural and three-dimensional rendering of subjects is enhanced. The camera also includes a handheld high-resolution mode that merges multiple frames into a single 100MP RAW or JPEG file, all without requiring a tripod.
4K Video Recording and Assist Functions
-
The G9 II is a powerful video tool as well as a stills camera. It supports DCI 4K and UHD 4K 60p recording with 4:2:2 10-bit color and no fixed time limit. For high-resolution slow motion, it can also record C4K/4K 120p in 4:2:0 10-bit.
-
A Frame Indicator can highlight the frame with a red border while recording, helping you avoid errors such as forgetting to start the recording.
-
The Frame Marker function makes it easier to convert anamorphic footage into vertical video for social media by letting you visualize how the image will be cropped in post.
-
AWB Lock fixes the auto white balance when shooting in mixed or changing lighting, improving consistency and avoiding the need for manual color temperature adjustments.
-
Vertical Position Information detects when a video is captured vertically and lets you choose whether to embed that orientation in the video file.
-
An advanced Focus Transition feature automatically shifts focus between set points at a constant speed, enabling smooth, professional rack-focus effects.
Pro-Level Video Versatility
-
V-Log comes pre-installed and records a flat, neutral gamma profile with the equivalent of more than 13 stops of dynamic range. This gives you precise control over color in post-production and allows smooth integration with footage from VariCam cameras.
-
Support for Apple ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ provides high image quality with relatively low compression, reducing strain on your computer and enabling non-linear editing without the need for transcoding.
-
Real Time LUT recording lets you apply LUTs directly in-camera, speeding up your workflow and reducing the amount of color grading needed later.
-
V-Log View Assist supports LUT formats such as .CUBE, .VLT, and .TXT, allowing you to preview an approximation of your final graded look while recording.
Phase Hybrid AF System
The G9 II is the first Lumix G-series mirrorless camera to feature a Phase Hybrid AF system. It uses 779 phase-detection points for fast, accurate autofocus and reliable tracking performance. The AF is designed to remain dependable in challenging situations that previously posed problems for traditional systems, including scenes with multiple people, strong backlighting, or low light. Whether shooting stills or video, the camera maintains focus on your chosen subject even in complex environments.
5-Axis Sensor-Shift Stabilization and Dual I.S. 2
-
To maximize sharpness when shooting handheld, Dual I.S. 2 combines the camera’s 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization (rated for up to 8 stops of compensation) with the 2-axis optical stabilization in compatible Lumix lenses featuring O.I.S. Together they correct a wide range of camera movement for clearer images and smoother video. With adapted lenses, you can choose whether to use the in-camera stabilization or the lens’s optical stabilizer.
-
For video, Boost I.S. helps keep the frame steady when recording from a fixed position, simulating tripod-like stability.
-
A new Active I.S. mode compensates for camera shake while you are moving, and the improved electronic image stabilization system helps counter even more intense motion, such as when running.
Powerful Photographic Features
-
The Leica Monochrome photo style delivers refined black-and-white images with a classic look.
-
Dynamic Range Boost creates a real-time HDR-style result from a single exposure, helping the camera deliver image quality that can rival some full-frame systems.
-
Live View Composite mode is ideal for night scenes such as starry skies, light trails, and fireworks, building up bright areas over time without overexposing the image.
-
Improved pre-burst settings (0.5, 1, and 1.5 seconds) let you capture frames from just before you fully press the shutter.
-
Continuous shooting speeds reach up to 75 fps with the electronic shutter, or up to 14 fps with the mechanical shutter.
Body Design and Handling
-
A 3.68-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides 0.8x magnification and offers selectable 60 fps or 120 fps refresh rates for smooth viewing and tracking.
-
The large 3.0" 1.84-million-dot LCD screen is bright and clear for live view, playback, and menu navigation. Its fully articulating design supports high, low, and front-facing angles, and the touchscreen interface allows intuitive control over settings and focus.
-
An 8-direction joystick and a refined, easy-to-use menu system make operation quick and efficient.
-
Dual SD card slots, both UHS-II compatible, provide flexible storage options: you can separate RAW and JPEG files, mirror recordings for backup, or use overflow recording to extend capacity.
-
An optional XLR microphone adapter adds professional XLR audio inputs and physical controls via the hot shoe.
-
The camera body is made from magnesium alloy and has a dust- and splash-resistant design, making it suitable for harsh weather and demanding environments.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity
Bluetooth Low Energy (5.0) maintains a constant, low-power connection between the camera and your smartphone or tablet. For higher-bandwidth tasks, dual-band Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n/ac) supports faster data transfer, remote control, and live monitoring. The Lumix Sync app for iOS and Android lets you control the camera remotely, transfer images wirelessly, and perform firmware updates using your mobile device.
