Description
The second-generation Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX is built for professional content creators who need high-quality still photos, advanced video options, and reliable livestreaming. It uses a newly designed sensor and an updated L2 image processor and is the first Lumix camera to feature a Phase Hybrid AF system for fast and accurate autofocus. With its 24.2MP sensor and powerful processor, the camera can record 6K video for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited 4K recording. Designed with video in mind, it also includes a new Active I.S. system that improves stabilization for handheld and walking shots while recording.
The S5 IIX comes pre-equipped with a range of professional video tools, including HDMI RAW video output, USB-SSD recording, ALL-Intra recording, and ProRes recording. Livestreaming is built in, with support for Wireless IP streaming, USB smartphone tethering, and Wired IP streaming. The camera also features a refined, fully black, stealth-style exterior, a first for the Lumix line.
Sensor and Image Processing
The camera uses an upgraded full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor and an advanced L2 image processing engine. The new Phase Hybrid AF system, used here for the first time in a Lumix camera, provides 779 phase-detection points for significantly improved subject tracking. The sensor delivers high sensitivity and a wide dynamic range, with a standard ISO range of 100–51,200 that can be expanded to 50–204,800 for flexible use in many lighting conditions.
For action and fast-moving subjects, the S5 IIX supports continuous shooting at up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter. It also uses sensor-shift stabilization and offers a High Resolution mode, which combines eight separate exposures into a single 96MP raw or JPEG file. This mode is intended for static subjects and tripod use, and it produces highly detailed, color-accurate images at a resolution of 12,000 x 8000 pixels.
6K and 4K Video Recording
In addition to stills, the S5 IIX is a powerful video camera. It records full-frame 6K 30p video with 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes and supports unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit modes. For slow motion, it offers 120p recording. RAW video output over HDMI is available with an optional license upgrade.
V-Log is pre-installed and provides a flat, neutral gamma profile with more than 14 stops of dynamic range. This gives precise control over color and exposure in post-production and allows smooth matching with Panasonic VariCam footage.
Borrowing from Panasonic’s broadcast line, Dual Native ISO technology helps achieve a balance between low noise and high sensitivity. Each pixel has two separate circuits:
-
The Low ISO circuit offers base sensitivities of ISO 100 for normal use, ISO 640 with V-Log, ISO 400 with HLG, and ISO 200 with Cinelike D2/V2.
-
The Low Noise circuit offers base sensitivities of ISO 640 for normal use, ISO 4000 with V-Log, ISO 2500 with HLG, and ISO 1250 with Cinelike D2/V2.
Professional Video Features
-
HDMI RAW video data output for advanced external workflows.
-
Support for recording and playback using an external SSD via USB, improving backup and post-production efficiency.
-
ALL-Intra and ProRes recording formats for professional editing and grading.
-
Wireless IP streaming, USB tethering to smartphones, and Wired IP streaming for modern content creation and live broadcasting setups.
Phase Hybrid AF System
The Lumix S5 IIX is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to use a Phase Hybrid AF system. With 779 phase-detection points, it delivers fast, precise, and reliable autofocus performance. The system is designed to accurately track subjects in six challenging types of scenes, including situations with multiple people, strong backlighting, or low-light environments. Whether capturing stills or video, the camera continuously follows the intended subject even in complex conditions.
Dual I.S. 2 and Active I.S. Stabilization
For handheld photography, the S5 IIX uses Dual I.S. 2 image stabilization, compensating for approximately 6.5 stops of camera shake to help maintain maximum sharpness. For video, the newly developed Active I.S. system improves stabilization specifically for walking and moving shots, resulting in smoother footage when the camera is in motion.
Body Design and Handling
-
The L-mount system, shared within the L-Mount Alliance, features a 51.6mm mount diameter and 20mm flange distance, supporting a wide range of lenses, including classic and modern anamorphic designs used for over 60 years.
-
A 3.68 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides clear viewing with 0.78x magnification and offers switchable 60 fps or 120 fps refresh rates.
-
A 3.0", 1.84 million-dot LCD screen provides a bright, clear view for live shooting, playback, and menu navigation. The free-angle design supports shooting from high, low, and front-facing positions, and the touchscreen allows intuitive operation.
-
An 8-direction joystick and a user-friendly menu layout support quick and efficient control.
-
A USB-C port provides high-speed data transfer and in-camera battery charging.
-
A full-size HDMI-A port supports reliable video output, a 2.5mm port is available for the optional DMW-RS2 remote shutter, and 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks support advanced audio recording workflows.
-
Dual UHS-II SD card slots offer flexible storage options, including separating raw and JPEG files, duplicating files for backup, or using overflow recording to extend capacity.
-
A built-in cooling fan helps control internal temperatures and allows extended or unlimited recording times.
-
The body is made from robust magnesium alloy and features dust- and splash-resistant construction, suitable for demanding environments.
-
The camera has a refined, fully black, stealth-inspired design.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity
Bluetooth Low Energy (5.0) provides a constant connection to smartphones or tablets with minimal power consumption. For faster data transfers and more advanced remote functions, the camera supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n/ac Wi-Fi standards. The Lumix Sync app for iOS and Android allows remote shooting, wireless image transfer, and firmware updates.

Panasonic Lumix S 14–28mm F4–5.6 Macro Lens – Description
The Panasonic Lumix S 14–28mm f/4–5.6 Macro is a compact ultra-wide-angle zoom lens designed for full-frame Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras. Its versatile focal length range makes it suitable for landscapes, cityscapes, street photography, and architecture. It is an excellent choice for travel and everyday use and performs well for both still photography and video content such as vlogs.
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of only 5.9" across the zoom range, enabling close-up shooting. Micro-step aperture control provides smooth exposure transitions for professional video work. The optical design is optimized to minimize focus breathing when changing focal length, which is especially useful for video.
The lens construction includes one aspherical ED (extra-low dispersion) element, one aspherical element, three ED elements, and one UHR (ultra high refractive index) element to deliver sharp, high-quality images. The dust- and splash-resistant design supports use in challenging weather, and the front element features a fluorine coating to resist dust, dirt, and smudges. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm helps produce smooth, pleasing bokeh.
