Panasonic S5 II X with 50mm Lens (SKU DC-S5M2XCE)

The Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX is a second-generation full-frame mirrorless camera made for professional content creators who need excellent stills, advanced video tools, and integrated livestreaming. It uses a newly designed sensor and an updated L2 image processor and is the first Lumix camera to feature Phase Hybrid AF, delivering very fast and accurate autofocus. Using its 24.2MP sensor and improved processor, the S5 IIX can record 6K video for up to 30 minutes and supports unlimited 4K recording. The camera is also optimized for video thanks to the new Active I.S. system, which provides extra stabilization when shooting handheld or while walking.

This S5 IIX version comes pre-loaded with a wide range of professional video functions, including HDMI RAW output, USB-SSD recording, ALL-Intra recording, and ProRes recording. Livestreaming support is built in with Wireless IP streaming, USB smartphone tethering, and wired IP streaming. It is also the first Lumix model with a fully matte, stealthy all-black exterior.

New Sensor and L2 Processing

The camera uses a full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor together with an L2-powered image processing engine. The sensor introduces a new Phase Hybrid AF system—used for the first time in the Lumix range—with 779 phase-detection points for notably improved subject tracking. It delivers high sensitivity and wide dynamic range with a standard ISO range of 100–51,200, expandable to 50–204,800, allowing it to adapt to many different lighting conditions.

For moving subjects, the S5 IIX supports burst shooting at up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter, all at full resolution. Sensor-shift image stabilization is built in, and the camera includes a High Resolution mode that combines eight images into one 96MP raw or JPEG file. This mode is best used on a tripod with static subjects and produces highly detailed, color-accurate images at 12,000 x 8,000 pixels.

6K and 4K Video Performance

Beyond stills, the S5 IIX is a powerful video tool. It records full-frame 6K 30p footage in 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit modes. For slow-motion work, it supports 120p capture at high resolution. RAW video output via HDMI is available with an optional license.

V-Log is installed at the factory and provides a flat, neutral gamma profile with more than 14 stops of dynamic range. This gives excellent flexibility in color grading and makes it easy to match footage with Panasonic VariCam cameras. Dual Native ISO, borrowed from Panasonic’s broadcast lineup, helps achieve low-noise, high-sensitivity recording in a wide range of lighting situations. Each pixel uses two independent circuits:

Phase Hybrid Autofocus System

The S5 IIX is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to adopt a Phase Hybrid AF system. With 779 phase-detection points, it provides fast, precise focusing and highly reliable subject tracking. The system is designed to maintain focus in six types of challenging situations that have traditionally been difficult for older AF systems, such as scenes with multiple people, strong backlighting, or low-light environments. Whether recording video or shooting stills, the camera persistently follows your chosen subject in complex scenes.

Dual I.S. 2 and Active I.S. Stabilization

For still photography, the Dual I.S. 2 stabilization system compensates for about 6.5 stops of camera shake, helping ensure crisp handheld images. For video, the newly developed Active I.S. system adds extra stabilization for walking and other moving shots, resulting in smoother, more stable footage when the camera is in motion.
