Sigma FP (SKU DC43900)

The Sigma fp is a full-frame mirrorless camera that delivers high-end still and video performance in a remarkably compact body weighing under one pound. It uses a 24.6MP back-illuminated Bayer CMOS sensor with 14-bit color depth, digital image stabilization for video, and Leica’s L-mount lens interface.

The camera’s fully electronic shutter provides silent, vibration-free operation and allows capture of raw and JPEG images at up to 6000 x 4000 resolution. Continuous shooting is possible at up to 18 fps. Its contrast-detect AF system offers 49 selectable focus points, face and eye detection, and focus peaking to aid manual focus. Base sensitivity ranges from ISO 100–25600, expandable to ISO 6–102400.

For video, the Sigma fp records UHD 4K at up to 30p and Full HD at up to 120p. It supports external 12-bit CinemaDNG recording and includes creative tools such as a “Teal and Orange” color mode inspired by Hollywood color grading. A dedicated still/cine mode switch on the top plate lets you move quickly between photo and video workflows.

The camera also features a Director’s Viewfinder mode, which simulates how various cinema cameras and lenses render the scene, making the fp a useful tool for filmmakers and DPs in pre-production. Supported systems include ARRI ALEXA LF, RED MONSTRO 8K, and a range of other digital, film, and anamorphic setups.

A 3.15" 2.1M-dot touchscreen LCD is used for composing and reviewing images. Media is recorded to a single UHS-II SDXC card slot. Thanks to an efficient heat sink and 42-point dust- and splash-resistant sealing, the Sigma fp is designed for long hours of use in demanding environments. External connectivity includes a USB 3.0 Type-C port and a micro-HDMI output.

Key Features and Functions

Full-Frame Sensor
The Sigma fp uses a 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Bayer CMOS sensor with 24.6 effective megapixels, capable of producing high-resolution stills and video with excellent tonal range and low-light performance.

Robust but Lightweight Aluminum Body
Front and rear die-cast aluminum covers provide strength, rigidity, and efficient heat dissipation, while keeping the camera body compact and relatively light.

Large Heat Sink and Thermal Design
A large heat sink, similar in concept to those used on cinema cameras, is mounted between the LCD and the main body. Combined with a heat-dissipating exterior coating, this helps prevent overheating during high-temperature use or extended recording sessions.

Dust- and Splash-Resistant Construction
Forty-two sealing points throughout the body provide dust and splash resistance. When paired with a dust- and splash-resistant lens, the Sigma fp can be used in challenging environments, such as rain or dusty locations.

Unified Tripod and Strap Mount Threads
The camera uses 1/4"-20 threaded sockets both for the tripod mount and for strap fittings. This design allows flexible rigging options, such as mounting the camera in portrait orientation without special plates, or attaching a strap in alternate positions to suit different shooting styles.

Full-Time Electronic Shutter
The fp has no mechanical shutter. The fully electronic shutter eliminates shutter shock and noise and reduces lag. This is ideal for situations requiring silent shooting, precise minimization of vibration, or quick responsiveness. The simpler mechanical structure also improves overall reliability.

“Teal and Orange” Color Mode
This color mode, available in both Still and Cine modes, mimics a popular Hollywood color grade. It enhances the contrast between orange skin tones and teal (cyan-blue) backgrounds, adding vibrant and dramatic character to footage or stills.

Fill Light Control
The Fill Light function, previously found only in Sigma’s Sigma Photo Pro software, is now built into the camera. It selectively brightens shadow regions without overexposing highlights, helping to produce detailed images from scenes with strong contrast. The adjustment range has been extended from ±2.0 to ±5.0, providing fine control over brightness and shadow detail.

Tone Control and Color Mode Adjustments
The Tone Control menu now includes a manual curve setting, in addition to Strong and Mild auto options, allowing you to shape the tone curve directly. In the Color Mode menu, an “effect” slider lets you adjust the strength of the chosen color mode from –5 to +5. Dedicated TONE and COLOR buttons provide fast access to these menus, making it easy to create fully finished looks in-camera for both stills and video.

HDR Shooting
Using the electronic shutter, the fp can capture multiple frames at different exposure levels and combine them into a single HDR image:

• Still photography: 3 frames combined

• Video (Cine mode): 2 frames combined, to be enabled via firmware update

HDR mode increases dynamic range beyond what is possible with a single exposure.

Cinemagraph Creation
The camera can create cinemagraphs—animated GIF-like images where part of the frame moves while the rest remains still—directly in-camera. This enables unique hybrid still/video content without external software.

Face/Eye Detection AF
Face and eye detection AF automatically locks onto a subject’s eyes for fast and precise focusing, especially useful for portraits and shallow depth-of-field shooting.

Focus Peaking
Focus peaking outlines in-focus edges in a chosen highlight color, simplifying accurate manual focusing.

L-Mount System
The L-mount, optimized for mirrorless cameras, offers a large mount diameter and short flange distance, along with robust durability. As an L-mount camera, the Sigma fp is compatible with a wide range of Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma L-mount lenses.

Sigma Mount Converter MC-21 Support
With the MC-21 mount converter, Sigma SA-mount and Canon EF-mount Sigma lenses can be adapted for use on L-mount cameras, dramatically expanding lens options and system flexibility.

External Raw Video Recording
The Sigma fp supports external 12-bit CinemaDNG recording via HDMI, up to UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at 24 fps. This creates high-quality raw footage suitable for professional film and video production. The camera also supports All-Intra (All-I) recording to maintain high image quality while optimizing file sizes. Playback of CinemaDNG files in-camera is planned via a future firmware update.

Director’s Viewfinder
The Director’s Viewfinder mode simulates the look and angle of view of various cinema cameras and lenses, making the fp an effective pre-visualization tool. It supports major systems used in filmmaking, including:
