Magus 40PL60V Plan 40х/0.60 ∞/1.2 H60mm Objective (85122)

This objective is designed for brightfield microscopy. The MAGUS Bio V360 microscope kit includes phase objectives that incorporate a metal film ring etched onto the inner lens. This ring is required for phase-contrast observations, as it introduces a quarter-wavelength phase shift relative to the rest of the light and reduces light transmission. For this reason, objectives without phase plates are recommended for standard brightfield use.

Optical resolution and aberration correction

A 40×/0.60 objective provides a resolution limit of 0.45 µm. Chromatic aberrations are corrected for blue and red wavelengths, spherical aberration is corrected for green, and field curvature is corrected across approximately 90% of the field of view diameter.

Optical system and mechanical characteristics

The objective is designed for an infinity-corrected optical system and has a parfocal distance of 60 mm. When used with a 10× eyepiece featuring a 22 mm field number, the resulting field of view diameter is 0.55 mm. The objective is suitable for working with dishes that have a bottom thickness of 1.2 mm.

Useful magnification range

When a 40× objective is used, the lower limit of the microscope’s useful magnification is 300×. Below this level, specimen details formed by the objective cannot be clearly resolved. The upper limit of useful magnification is 600×; higher magnifications do not reveal additional detail and are therefore ineffective. With a 40×/0.60 objective, eyepieces with magnifications from 10× to 15× are recommended.

Plan achromatic design

Plan achromatic objectives produce images that remain in focus both at the center and at the edges of the field, resulting in negligible distortion. This makes them well suited for digital imaging and for use with wide-field eyepieces offering a 22 mm field of view.
