These standard-width rails were originally created by the Losmandy company for their GEM mounts and later became a widely accepted standard in the astronomy industry. Manufacturers such as Celestron, AstroPhysics, and Software Bisque (Paramount) adopted this design, and today, most manufacturers offer clamps compatible with 3" Losmandy-style rails. Despite this, sourcing high-quality standardized rails can still be challenging.
