Imaging Performance and Stabilization
The Z5 II uses Nikon’s latest EXPEED 7 image-processing engine and a full-frame FX-format sensor to deliver impressive results, even when shooting handheld. It offers:
-
Extremely wide ISO sensitivity range for cleaner images in low light.
-
Advanced 3D subject tracking for precise focus in dynamic scenes.
-
Autofocus that works down to –10 EV, allowing sharp shots even after dark.
Nikon’s in-body Vibration Reduction (VR) is optimized around the active focus area and helps counteract camera shake by up to 7.5 stops at the centre of the frame and 6 stops toward the edges, depending on the lens and conditions.³
Design, Viewfinder, and Handling
The Z5 II maintains a compact, durable magnesium-alloy body, making it an ideal travel companion. Key handling features include:
-
A bright electronic viewfinder with up to 3000 cd/m² brightness and 18 levels of adjustment for comfortable composition in harsh sunlight or low light.
-
A large tilt-and-swivel 3.2" touchscreen monitor with a 170° viewing angle that automatically adjusts its display to match camera orientation.
-
Deep, comfortable grip and refined ergonomics, especially appreciated by users familiar with the original Z5.
-
Two SD (UHS-II) memory card slots for flexible storage and backup.
-
Dust and drip resistance at a similar level to the Z6III, making it suitable for more demanding environments.
Creative Tools and Controls
The Z5 II offers a broad set of tools for photographers and videographers:
-
Picture Control button: Quickly switch between colour profiles and preview the effect in real time.
-
Create and save custom Picture Controls using Nikon NX Studio software.
-
Automated cloud-based image storage and access to colour presets from Nikon and other creators via Nikon Imaging Cloud.⁵
-
Advanced AF-A focus mode that automatically switches between AF-S (for still subjects) and AF-C (for moving subjects), ensuring reliable focus as scenes change.
-
Pre-release Capture functionality, which allows the camera to start saving images just before the shutter is fully pressed, helping you catch fleeting moments.
Video Features
The Z5 II is also a strong tool for video:
-
Cinematic recording:
-
4K/30p with maximum detail or up to 4K/60p with a crop.
-
Full HD/120p for smooth slow-motion sequences.
