20 MP Stacked Sensor and TruePic X Processor

The OM-1 uses a newly designed 20.4 MP Live MOS sensor with a stacked, back-illuminated structure:

• Stacked design improves readout speed and reduces rolling shutter

• BSI construction delivers cleaner images at high ISO and better dynamic range

• Noise performance is improved by about 2 stops compared to earlier designs

TruePic X Processor
The TruePic X processor is around three times faster than the previous generation and works with the sensor to deliver:

• Up to 10 fps continuous shooting with mechanical shutter, full AF/AE, and a buffer of up to 169 RAW frames

• Up to 20 fps with electronic shutter, full AF/AE, with a buffer of up to 108 RAW frames

• SH1 and SH2 blackout-free high-speed modes:

  • SH1: Up to 120 fps with fixed AF/AE

  • SH2: Up to 50 fps with AF/AE

Pro Capture Mode

• Starts recording frames when the shutter button is half-pressed

• Can record at up to 120 fps (fixed focus) or 50 fps (continuous AF)

• Up to 70 frames can be captured before the shutter is fully pressed, helping you catch action that happens slightly before you react

Cross Quad Pixel AF and AI Detection

The OM-1’s on-sensor phase detection AF uses a Cross Quad Pixel layout:

• Each pixel is effectively split into four sub-pixels, improving focus performance, especially in complex lighting

• 1053 phase-detect AF points cover virtually the entire sensor

• AF calculations run at up to 120 fps for fast, accurate tracking

Using color and contrast data from the sensor, the AF system can build a detailed depth map to improve subject detection and tracking. With AI-based algorithms, it can automatically recognize and track:

• Humans (faces and eyes)

• Birds

• Dogs and cats

• Cars and motorcycles

• Airplanes and helicopters

• Trains

Compared with earlier AF systems from OM SYSTEM, this AF is:

5-Axis Image Stabilization and Computational Tools

In-Body 5-Axis Stabilization

• Sensor-shift image stabilization compensates for up to 8 stops of camera shake when used with select IS-enabled lenses

• Body alone provides up to around 7 stops of compensation

• Helps with low-light shooting, long exposures and telephoto work without a tripod
