Description

The Canon EOS C500 Mark II 5.9K Full-Frame Camera Body is an integral part of Canon's Cinema EOS series, boasting a full-frame CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 18.69MP. This sensor allows for 5.9K output in full frame, and it can also crop (window) the sensor for Super 35 and Super 16 frame sizes while preserving high resolution. Equipped with a Canon EF mount, the C500 Mark II offers an interchangeable lens mount system, enabling users to swap out the mount in the field for optional Cinema Locking EF or PL mounts, thus greatly expanding lens compatibility. The sensor boasts over 15 stops of dynamic range and supports Dual Pixel autofocus, while image processing is handled by a DIG!C DV 7 chip.

Internally, the camera records in raw using the Canon Cinema RAW Light codec in 12- or 10-bit, or in XF-AVC codec in 10-bit. Recording is facilitated by CFexpress cards via two CFexpress card slots, while 8-bit proxy recording in XF-AVC codec, as well as JPEGs, can be captured onto an SD card through the built-in SD card slot. The camera supports various gamma settings, including Canon Log 2 and Log 3, and different color gamuts such as Cinema BT.2020, DCI-P3, and legacy BT.709, with the option to import LUTs. Additionally, the camera allows for four channels of 24-bit, 48 kHz linear PCM audio recording.

Sensor:

The full-frame CMOS sensor delivers a clean, low-noise image with over 15 stops of dynamic range and a color gamut that exceeds BT-2020 specifications. It supports various aspect formats, including DCI-4K, UHD, and Anamorphic Widescreen.

DIG!C DV 7 Image Processor:

Utilizing the DiG!C DV 7 image processor, the EOS C500 Mark II handles extensive raw information captured from the 5.9K sensor. It enables high frame rate recording, Dual Pixel Auto Focus, Canon RAW Light Recording, HDR output, electronic image stabilization, proxy recording, and oversampling processing.

Interchangeable Lens Mounts:

Featuring a Canon EF lens mount, the C500 Mark II is compatible with Canon EF, ENG, and Canon Cine-Servo lenses. It also offers an optional EF Cine Lock mount and an industry-standard PL mount, both field-swappable by the user.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF:

With support for Touch AF and Face Detection AF, the camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology utilizes each pixel in the CMOS sensor to provide precise autofocus with compatible lenses.

Focus Control/Assist:

Focus control options include Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Manual Focus, One-Shot AF, Continuous AF, AF-Boosted MF, and Face Detection AF, though note that only lenses supporting AF functions can be used in these modes.

Shutter Settings:

Shutter settings include Speed, Angle, Clear Scan, Slow, or Off mode, with speed increments of either 1/3 or 1/4 steps.

Electronic Image Stabilization:

The C500 Mark II features built-in five-axis electronic IS that works with almost any lens, including anamorphic lenses, offering stabilization support.

Other Features:

Additional features include slow and fast motion recording, pre-recording, relay recording, custom picture settings, color bars, peaking, zebra, waveform monitor, assignable buttons, and more.

Optional Expansion Modules:

Expansion units offer added functionalities such as genlock/sync out, remote B (RS-422), Ethernet ports, additional XLR audio inputs, lens control port, 24-volt DC out, D-Tap power, and compatibility with V-mount batteries.

LOG and LUT Support:

The camera supports various Log formats including Canon Log 2 and Log 3, with the option to apply LUTs for different looks.

Audio:

The camera features two XLR audio inputs, expandable to four with an optional Expansion Unit 2, and supports 8-bit recording to an SD card.

Timecode and White Balance Modes:

Timecode settings include Rec Run, Free Run, and Regen, while white balance modes include AWB, Kelvin setting, Daylight, Tungsten, and Set (A/B).

Optional EVF and Wireless Streaming:

An optional EVF is available separately, and wireless streaming requires a WFT unit (not included).

Lenses Supporting Auto Iris:

Compatible lenses include EF, COMPACT SERVO, CINE-SERVO, and ENG broadcast lenses, though note that an optional B4 lens adapter is required for ENG-style lenses.

The Canon EOS C500 Mark II 5.9K Full-Frame Camera Body thus presents a comprehensive solution for professional filmmakers, offering versatility, high-quality imaging, and extensive customization options.
