Coronado PST Solar Telescope

The PST Telescope from Coronado is an extraordinary tool specifically engineered for viewing the Sun's surface via the narrow H-alpha hydrogen band. This cutting-edge telescope features a specialized filter that selectively permits the passage of red light emitted from hydrogen atoms. This specific feature enables astronomers to explore the chromosphere - the atmospheric layer above the photosphere. Utilizing the PST Telescope unveils complex solar features like a fascinating interplay of cells and fibers within the backdrop of the solar shield, along with noticeable protrusions at the edge of the solar disk. It also provides viewers with the opportunity to spot areas of sunspots and watch the brightly illuminated spots known as torches.

Description

The PST Telescope is a remarkable instrument specifically designed to observe the surface of the Sun using the narrow H-alpha hydrogen band. This innovative telescope is equipped with a specialized filter that allows only a narrow band of red light emitted by hydrogen atoms to pass through. By harnessing this unique capability, astronomers can now study the chromosphere, the atmospheric layer situated above the photosphere. Through the PST Telescope, a multitude of intricate solar features come to life, including a captivating network of cells, fibers against the backdrop of the shield, and prominent protuberances along the solar disk's edge. Additionally, observers can witness areas of sunspots, particularly the brilliantly shining spots referred to as torches.

Representing an exceptional CORONADO solution, the PST Telescope marks yet another stride in making solar exploration accessible to all. It strikes an excellent balance between affordability, ease of construction and operation, and the breadth of observational opportunities within the sub-1? wavelength range.

Drawing upon the technological advancements of the SolarMax solar telescopes, the PST leverages proven techniques employed in higher-end models.
