The ZWO AM5 is designed to operate in both equatorial (EQ) and azimuthal (AZ) modes, catering to the specific needs of astrophotography and observational purposes respectively. It incorporates high-resolution NEMA stepper motors and a wave gearbox, resulting in exceptional precision of 0.5 to 0.8 arcseconds. Control options include a hand controller, mobile application, and computer software compatible with the ASCOM driver. Notably, the AM5 is fully compatible with the popular ASIAIR™ series controllers, further enhancing its versatility.

Despite its compact size and lightweight design, the ZWO AM5 offers remarkable capabilities. It features an M12 thread on the head, allowing for the attachment of counterweight axes, thereby increasing the maximum load capacity from 13 to 20 kilograms. Importantly, the optical tube is protected against sudden falls in the event of a power failure, thanks to a dedicated brake mechanism.
